Yorkshire and World CC this weekend

Post by neilbardsley »

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=63930

Family decided not to come, just Mrs/I, so I have one twin and one single room available if anybody wants.

Anybody else up there? Want to met up for a spin?

Can you the local recommend somewhere we can eat on Saturday/Sunday and watch the action?

I think on Saturday/Sunday to see the main races we will drive part of the way then park and bike 2-4 miles in? I'm guessing that trying to drive into the centre will be silly. On Friday/Saturday I might bike to somewhere on the course myself while Mrs B doesn't something else?

Harrogate and surrounding area is a nightmare at the moment, we have cancelled all our work there for this week.
All so some blokes in lycra can cycle around!

you thinking of going to Harrogate for the Sat / Sunday ? It will be heaving and you probo won't end up seeing much . Get out onto one of the big climbs in the dales & enjoy instead.

If with the Mrs ... nice food places ( this is more evening meals ) .. to be fair you can't really go wrong with many of the pubs in the Dales. Always a little bit difficult to recomend plalces as it can be personal preference.

close by to you :

Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton ( nearly everyone loves it .. me less so as I think it lacks atmosphere and is slightly overrated )

Blue Lion @ East Witton .. old school posh pub with lovely bar area and you can sit outside watching the cars & bikes go by

Sandpiper @ Leyburn

Saddle Rooms @ the forbidden corner

In Masham if youre just wanting a bacon buttie go to the cafe in the market place with the window hatch .. you'll see cyclists & motorcyclists hangin around it drinking tea . Castle Bolton has a cafe and there are quite a few in Leyburn & Bedale

places to view ? .. only had a quick look at the routes so don't tale this as gospel .. also , you won't be able to drive to many unless its the market towns .. and for those get there early , have breakfast & a coffee and enjoy the atmos

26th : Start in Richmond will be good .. loverly market town with a castle & the swale

or Leyburn on route, again nice market town

its not the most dynamic of routes though really

27th ( the crap day ? ) :

Greenhow Hill out of Pateley Bridge will be really busy place to view . tough climb ..

otherwise just pick a random place to watch on the route .. wouldn't recomend going to doncaster

Ripon area is nice

28th Women elite :

The Climb out of Lofthouse is a killer .. great place to watch .. you will have to cycle to it though as you wont' get cars anywhere near it .. might have to park down near Masham . In fact anywhere between Lofthouse & Masham would be good to view

29th Sunday Mens Elite :

Buttertubs will be great but every man and his dog will be there

Personally Grinton Moor / Whipperdale Bank out of Grinton would be brilliant ... up after the bridge that recently washed away ( now temporary structure in place ) you'll be able to see them come up the climb

It's a real shame that GT couldn't be asked to get himself into shape for a home WC. Pulled out of the TT sighting lack of form. This type of course would suit a fit GT. I know the TdF is tough, and the number one race in the world, but how many times does the WC happen in the UK?? Unfortunately we have a home WC with < 2% chance of winning :(

Actually I'm hard on GT as both Yates brothers could of got into shape (it's appears that Adam maybe in good shape) and unfortunately Stephen Cummings crashed in the Tour of Britain.
