Intermittant crunch into 1st and reverse

Post by Ollie »

So... getting some miles on my 912, i've noticed that first and reverse are offering some resistance when being selected resulting in the occasional crunch. Other times they slip straight in without any fuss.

I've replaced and lubed my shift rod and bushes, i'm thinking next steps to adjust clutch and have a play with how everything lines up...

Any thoughs or words of wisdom?

Kind regards,

Ollie

Try these... in order.

1) adjust clutch cable.
2) replace gearbox oil
3) replace syncro “brake bands” & possibly a few other things while you’re “in there”

If just 1st / reverse then 90% chance it’s just the clutch adjustment

Thanks folks! Will try clutch adjustment first.

Probably due a gearbox oil change so wil add that to my 'to do' list for the winter.

Cheers!

If you don't know when you last changed the gearbox oil I would do that regardless of whether you adjust the clutch or not. Only takes 30 mins and cost £24 for the oil.

This is 75/90 synthetic I use now in all my cars
