Silver hotrod

Post by MarkIII »

A few years back I posted a thread on ddk capturing my 67S rebuild, starting point was a stripped out rhd 67S rally car. Well the project is long gone, after the car was completed and driven for a couple of months for various reasons it had to be sold.

Well 3 yrs is a long time, after divorce, change of jobs twice relocation to a different part of the country I am fortunately in a position to build another car.

I deliberated for a long time about the car i wanted, something complete just out of restoration so I could just drive and enjoy it or should i dive into another full on project !! Well I tried the former and after about a year of owning something I decided to move it on and look for a project car.

Project needed to be swb 911 and something that was not to original as i wanted to build something to put my own stamp on.

Fortunately I managed to find a car which had been in hibernation waiting for its then owner to get around to another project. The big selling point for me was the car came with a large pile of period sports purpose build parts. a deal was done and the car was picked up and put into temporary storage

Hurray.....

well that's a couple of pictures of the shell being picked up around a month or so ago. hopefully will have some news soon on the next steps.

In preparation for the shell starting i have been exploring rear arch profiles for 68 swb sports purpose cars the R and T/R. After speaking to a number of people with a lot more experience in this area than me, i was told that the lieklyhood of two cars having the same rear arch profile is remote.

After getting my hands on a set of fibre glass R rear arches from a fellow T/R hot rodder, i know these will not necessarly be correct but after being sent a bucket of photos from an owner who has two of these cars i believe the fibre glass arches will be a good starting point for my body man to create a set of steel arches. bit more on this tomorrow, but for the time being a few pictures:
