Stanford bound.

Post by wildtexas »

Earlier than most I recognise, but as I have to cross the Irish sea I am setting off early. Spending a day with my dad in Cheshire then Stanford early doors on Sunday.

So it started at 4am this morning with a dark start and a break for the border, and down to Dublin port. 120 miles in just over 2hrs. Not bad for a 51 year old car that probably hasn't driven that far in the last 4 yrs.

Heading for Holyhead now and waiting on my fry up.

More photos to follow I hope

Let's hear and see your own stories. Matt

Well the fry up morphed into eggs Benedict but Saul Goodman!

After a fairly boring ferry trip, I was accosted by a classic Porsche fan down on the car deck. Seems he was heading to Neinmeister to pick up his '72 911. Any guesses who it was?

Nice to put faces to names...

Thankfully, no battery or starting issues on the boat.

My wife still won't forgive me for having to push start my 62 vw notchback off the ferry after our "North sea cruise" from Stavanger to Newcastle.

Settled into a steady pace across Angelsey.

Peeled off at Conwy marina for a comfort stop. Too much free coffee takes its toll

Nice spot to stop at the mulberry if your touring there .

Parked next to a fiat 500 that make the 912 look tiny! Still blue and orange are complimentary colours. But like gulf colours?

Having stopped in Conwy, I skipped Llandudno. That and the fact I was last there was for a job interview. I didn't get it!

I stopped into a restaurant to eat back then. Beautiful sunshine, great evening. All of a sudden the was a huge lightning storm that flooded the town. Small children were washed down the gutters and into the sea.

Before I knew it I was passing Rhyl. It brought back memories from over 30yrs ago.

Heading to"the sandcastle" water centre to ride the flumes as a prepubescent school boy. 9 up in my dad's old Volvo estate. 4 of us in the boot sat crossways. Transvision Vamp on the cassette player....

After this, not much in the way of photos as I got a case of heavy right foot.

But to prove I made it to Cheshire....

10 hours, all in all, door to door and 240 miles. Plenty of learning on the way.
