50 years driving my 356 part 2 the photos

Okay, before I try my best to load a few photos on here, I must say I never realized how many photos I have of my car ! Over the past 10 years I have gone digital so there are quite a few on my PC which I can upload here. But of course many are hard copy prints. I have copied some early ones which I will start with and not being that conversant with doing this will try 5 photos at a time to see how I get on.

Just as well I am a retired bloke with a bit of time. In 1986 Classic Cars did an article on my car and in 2010 GT Porsche did another one. I have old fashioned slides Classic Car gave me which along with slides of some of my restoration taken so many years ago by my dad I have never had converted. However with the GT Porsche Magazine nine years ago Antony Fraser who took the photos kindly sent me a CD with them on so a few I will post on this thread. Steve Wright who did the write up for the article actually drove my car for one of the shots taken near Arundel. I told him then he was the only guy to have driven my car since I bought it in 1969 and he still is the only guy!

I will mention now, my deco strips under the door are 356B ones. Blame this on AFN. For some reason the strips were missing on my car when I bought it. The holes were there and I remember going into AFN on a visit up to Isleworth in 69 and asking if they could supply a pair. They duly came out with new pair. I fitted them and maybe two years later saw the correct ones with the wider width on another 356A. Too late to take back but it didn't really matter then, or now, for that matter except when you look at prefect restorations like Jonno's that show up that my car with its now 30 year paint, is just a really nice runner.

Photos now to follow next.

Photo no 1.
My 356A taken by its third owner in 1961 in Northampton. He kept the car for about 4 years before trading it in at AFN for 356C. In a letter from him in the early 70's he advised the disc brakes were better but he really still liked the old 356A.

Trying this first photo. Takes an age I must be able to batch but don't know how to yet!!

Will try now to insert 2 more photos again black and white the first one shows my eldest boy as a baby with by wife. ( the ski rack I sold on) and the stick on reflective number plates I just had to have at 26 years of age. Both photos taken in 1969 and Spring 1970. The 1970 one was near Worthing Pier and the beach.

Great pics.

I remember spending a day during Christmas holidays a few years ago tracking down the location of that first photo on google earth.

Keep the pics coming.

What you might think is boring Roy, we find fascinating .. it’s living history with the stories and photos. I’ll be honest and say I find the stories / histories of road cars far more interesting than that of race cars as there is always much more human element to them :)

Wonderful thread, and it makes me/us look back on long term ownerships and think hard what companions these cars become and the influence they have on our lives.

Browsing dusty photo albums bring it all back, so much better than opening files on a PC!

We want more Roy. :)

Thanks guys for the encouragement for me to continue! Well, a different area today, might well interest those regarding engine work.
Photo one shows my original engine, the second and third photos show the Fraser Nash AFN invoice for the work carried out on the engine in 1965. Its interesting to note how prices have changed since then and it was of course then old money. I notice a while ago I had tried to convert the total price to current ones. Its clear how then a few hundred pounds was a lot of money then. I remember at work in 50's every Friday a brown envelope with the weekly pay inside hardly enough now to buy a pint !
