My 912 decided to stop turning over the starter this morning so I'm try to get the ignition switch out to check the connects. I can't c get a socket or spanner in to remove the top bolt?

Anyone done this before and any ideas?

Not the ignition switch unfortunately :)

I can't get the light switch to fit without moving. Have I lost a spacer from the other side?

Found the problem. This relay, next to the starter, had failed. I've removed and it starts

Neil,

Thats a common fix that was used on Air-cooled VW’s to overcome poor wiring, and send a solid 12 volts to the starter motor.

Bit of a You Tube bit here.

They are generally 30 Amp - not sure what yours is.

Thank you. I was aware of the fix as I had one in my 356 but don't enjoy getting under the car to fix the problem

Suggest you put it somewhere more accessible then if it fails again?
