Enough of this wheel business, it's getting Fooks 6's n 7's end of. Long overdue but it's finally in the paint booth after being put back due to some other urgent jobs needing immediate attention. We've mocked up the stripes and they look good with the outer edges lining up with the outer line of the louvers on the engine lid. I had stripes on my first ever car, a Ford Pop, they were some Fablon left over from one of my Mums shops, no, don't laugh. Stripes on the 356 will be dark blue and go front to back. A bit of other news and old Stretchy boy has booked us a chateau magnifique for the Classic Le Mans weekend. Roll on vaccines and roll on 2021.

Would that be chateau de chanteloupe by any chance?

They do a big LM camp every year, and there are pictures and videos rolling in the bar. We stop there every year on our hols on our way further south....lovely place

Actually it's a 16th Century manor house in St.Germain de Coulamer. Three floors, four poster beds, music room, hughmongeous kitchen, and Florence who will respond to our every whim. And in the courtyard there will be six 911's and, hopefully, one little 356.

Ah, that's a four cylinder isn't it? Right, he's sleeping in the shed.

engine lid finished 1.jpg
After a couple of setbacks as Miles says we're all blue. The setbacks were of course the bloody virus thing, plus the engine lid which refused to sit nicely on the shell due to the off side rear car damage that no one saw until quite late in the day. When I was initially restoring the car I spent hours, days even trying to get the engine lid to sit correctly but it's a small double compound curved item internally strengthened by an inner moulding and four layers of louvers, or even louvres. However, with the rear bodywork corrected and some demon work by Mr. Kerti with various hammers and other assorted blunt instruments I'm very pleased to say it now fits a treat. The other item which put a brake on the proceedings was the discovery of a nasty crease in the roof, undiscovered possibly due to the car always having an elevated status due to it's usual residence being on a ramp. This problem once again perfectly corrected by thems at Classic Fabs meant that at last the car could get into the spray booth for some lovely coats of baby blue. Not sure about the stripes at the mo' but hey ho at least it's all painted and now all that's left is for all the greasy bits to be shunted in.

Thanks Roy. I have made an executive decision and following lengthy discussions with my builder the stripes have got the chop. So no stripes, my builder went to art college so he's a bit arty and he reckons the continual curves of the 356 would be in dire conflict with the straight lines of the stripes. And who am I to argue with college blokes but I might just put the roundels on the doors, Heh Heh.
With the lockdown I'm stuck at home doing sweet fanny adams whist Steve over at Classic Fabrications is thrashing away sorting out the car. As per last note it's all painted now with just the rear suspension, engine and gearbox and accompanying ancilliaries to be re-fitted. As per the pics all the suspension parts are being sprayed satin black following shot blasting and priming, these have been dry fitted quite a few times and should all just fall into place. One extra piece Steve managed to do was locate and fit an engine lid latch which sits to the left of the lid and will have cabling to operate it from the interior like the original stock way. I used to have to crawl down on my knees behind the engine to access a small knob attached to some push bike cable to open the lid. Rather undignified.
So it looks good for a test drive soon and some 356ing in 2021.

OMG I think my car has stalled and is still in pieces sitting in a dusty corner of Classic Fabrications workshop whilst he fettles 911 turbos for very wealthy customers, but do I care? No, because I have my good buddy over in the Fens diligently assembling my new scoot. Yes sir it's motasicklin time very soon. I can't recall if I posted this before but the bike will be a Cole Foster Salinas Boys copy, google Cole Foster if you have half an interest and you will see all the cool stuff he makes. So buddy Mark is building up this custom softail framed evo motored street chop for me. It's got mega expensive polished forged rims and tricked out everything else. I cannot wait to ride this beauty and hope it will be finished by about Easter when hopefully we will all be able to get out and play with out toys.
