Local blacking of the 1973 coupe body shell?
Can anyone with the facts please define the areas where the '73 shell should be blacked out?
I know the tunnel and seat areas, but where else did the factory apply satin black?
Thanks,
Graham.

pretty sure the inside edges of the doors where the door cards are were also painted black so the body colour couldn't be seen around the edge of the card.

Probably a few that still needed doing in those pictures, around the chassis number for example.

Also on the battery Boxes and inner wings behind the horn grills, around the fresh air vent (although this was done with black cloth tape on the early cars) also along the lower edge of the inner sills on the outside ( the part that shows below the stainless sill covers) and this extended a little into the front and rear inner wings.

Also dash wasn’t entirely blacked (on my ‘72 anyway) just around the edges and front face.

Thank you for those pictures Jon, answers my question in one.
The door top return edge where the exterior seal strip fit..should be black too?
You can see this return on my car when sat in the seat. Going black mine anyway.

Graham - if you look at my resto thread you will see all you need. Darren painted it and has done much research on what was where originally. If you want some extra pics let me know...

Thank you, will track the thread down.
My car is light years from original, but nice to add a few original features this time round.

Thank you, just quickly nipped though the last 4 pages, looks perfect and shows the black along the door tops too.
It turned out very well!

Re: Local blacking of the 1973 coupe body shell?
Yea, that’s the car I used as the reference for my restoration details. It was a very low mileage one owner barn find that had been preserved in its original state from new. To his credit the guy who found the car very sympathetically cleaned the car without restoring it. What he found underneath all that dust was a beautifully preserved example with all its factory features intact. His deep cleaning and photographic reference as he went along has to be applauded. When he sold it it was so tempting to buy it since it was like a factory fresh car and in such a wonderful colour. So much nicer than a fully restored early car.
Regards
Mike
