356 super 90 B restoration/outlaw
Hi All,
New to DDK forum but have been a member of a few VW based ones for many years - My buisness partner/mate is also a member and resurrecting his savage 912 (Chud) .
After owning many VWs i decided to sell my collection and purchase my dream car which happened to be a 356, I managed to keep hold of one Splitscreen which will keep me ticking over whilst this gets done.
After what seemed a lifetime of hunting I finally found the perfect one for me, has every OG part on it with matching numbers engine/gearbox and with the paint code i wanted 741 (slate grey) - It had a very poor paint job done many years ago so will need to be blasted back to bare metal and started again whilst repairing any metal work required.
My plan is to completely restore the car back to its original colour and original looking interior BUT drop it on the floor with some cool wheels and bigger motor, all the work will be done sympathetically and with every intention of putting it back completely stock if/when i ever sell - so no nasty notching or cutting that can't be replaced.
I will start stripping the car this weekend so more photos to follow...

Question from John in Squaresville: is the appeal of these dramatically dropped vehicles mostly about the look? Can you maintain enough ride quality/suspension travel so as to still enjoy the car on country roads, long trips etc, or is the emphasis mostly on the aesthetics and the loss of functionality is a necessary evil? Not being a prude, just interested in what you guys are after on these kinds of projects.

I'm a standard setup guy John, so no idea.
Welcome Ben, looking forward to seeing how the restoration comes on. (Good luck!)

Hi John,
For me personally its more about the overall look then performance, that said though if its done properly you don't compromise on ride quality with dropped spindles but you do lack clearance on country roads so being alert is a must.
Re: 356 super 90 B restoration/outlaw
So after stripping the interior I found what can only be described as DIY repairs, I was expecting these sort of repairs but you got to laugh what some people do to hide things and create an illusion all is okay
The floor wasn't to bad but both sills are detached from pan, the only thing holding them together was a piece of pop riveted tin.
The car will be completely media blasted once stripped to find all its demons but ill keep posting my findings while its being gutted.
