Curves Scotland- NW 500 road trip

I’m planning a May road trip to Scotland - using Stefan Bogner’s http://www.curves-magazin.com/en/magazi ... chottland/ as the basic route.
Small group of maybe 4 - 5 Porsches.
Emphasis on great roads, fab food and drink.
Has anyone here got any particular hotel/pub/ food recommendations to share.
Any other useful tips?

Clive, you are in for a real treat. I popped my early 911 cherry on those roads back in 2002

I can strongly recommend staying at the pubs in Plockton and Applecross. You will need to book early.

The Plockton Inn is good for food an locally brewed real ale. I was there last year in the winter and got a warm welcome. It’s just off the main route but well worth a visit.
I would think you have chosen the busiest month to go so be prepared for some traffic especially Motorhomes. Eileen Donan castle close by is also a favourite stop.
Be prepared for midges in May. The weather is usually good around April/May.

Funny just emailed my son about cycling this after he had finished his exams in May. He is studying in Glasgow. Looks like I might need to think about dates now. However a bit harder to plan on bikes. As legs don't always do what you tell them

I went to see an old friend in Manchester over the weekend, 130 miles of M5/6 took 4.5 hours of stop start motoring. It was miserable as going north is these days and just to rub it in, there was a sign explaining that disruptions will continue till 2022.

I’d love to revisit Scotland, especially in my 356 (Speed cameras galore), but I’m somewhat daunted by getting there and using third world services.

Where I live is just over 2 hours from Portsmouth from where I can drive deserted mountain roads (just have) in Northern Spain or explore France on empty and beautiful roads.

I’m just saying really and I’d love to join you if my 356’s restoration is complete.

We do these trips “ Bandit Tours” once a year- France last two years- decided last year that the “getting there” was taking too long.
We can get to Scotland by fast ferry from Belfast and avoid all the hassle you described!

Been up to Scotland a few times. If you get it right you fly up the M6. From the Lakes District on wards the motorways are super clear! I can do our front door in Daventry to son's front door in Glasgow 5 hours (in a Discovery 2!). 30 mins more and you are in the West Highlands. One hour less and you can be in the borders which are lovely too.

Much to the surprise to even people living in Glasgow, Loch Lomond or Callandar are not the West Highlands!

I've never done the 500 as I think the roads on the West Coast are just as good and with the popularity of the 500 not as busy either.

I’ve done several classic rallies on the East Coast and the roads there and in towards Aviemore are superb, we used to start in Edzell, NE of Dundee, it has a great wee hotel.

We did this again at the end of Spetember, I will post some pictures and details when I get a chance. There are some amazing roads, great places to stop and some really nice hotels on the route.
