unfortuntely SOR type sales are tarred with the same brush due to this kind of story happening again and again , wether it be Porsche or other high end cars.

Hopefully the good honest SOR dealers are recognised as such from recomendations etc

I have every sympathy with the OP who appears to have been treated extremely badly, but comments along the lines of "they are all the same" are inaccurate and unhelpful

I have no doubt that there are many excellent dealers in the UK, SOR or not. I hope so because selling an expensive car like a classic 911 is much more difficult when you're based over here in N.Ireland and I will probably be hoping to sell another car in the spring. So I could do with recommendations anyway.

Robert Barrie - didn't know you handled SORs so worth a chat. I could make a list of others that I am considering but by doing so it may identify the problem dealer by their conspicuous absence...

I have had one PM from someone else who was about to place their car with another dealer and wanted to be sure it wasn't the one I'm having trouble with. It wasn't so I was able to put his mind at rest.

By way of a general update, the problem dealer has seen this thread, understands the likely next steps and promises payment. I will of course keep you informed. Legal practice has been briefed and awaits instruction should that be necessary.

There are a couple of big specialist Porsche and classic dealers who have had issues paying people over the last couple of years on SOR cars.

Don't let previous reputation, size or current stock be an indicator that all is still ok, it can happen to anybody and does.

Act today, you've already given them way too long for them to pay you your money that they have had for 2.5 months!!

It's a shame we don't name them when it's as clear cut as this....others will just get caught out also :(

I would act today and issue proceedings, they have had long enough already. I have experienced SOR three times now and can onyl say it has worked oka for me and I have received the proceeds form the sales less commission and costs promptly.

Good luck

I have never sold a car through a dealer but I was wondering whether some use an escrow service?

Certainly with house/land sales I have been involved in that was the norm.

Not much use to the OP of course, just curious as to whether dealers or individuals use this idea.

If not, why not? Matt

Yes agreed, clearly not all are the same. The problem from the outside is that it's hard to tell who is good and who is not. Or who to trust and who not. It's in the nature of SoR though that if the dealer does have a cashflow issue, the funds are possibly at risk. If a dealer is suffering cashflow issues, they then might be underhand (or desperate or misguided) enough to do more SoR to help them through.

When assessing a dealer recently for SOR, you'd be amazed at the number of polar opposite experiences!

To the OP, you've been very kind to let the dealer give another promise. Please make sure you are ready to press the go button on the moneyclaim online site if that promise is not met.

The person who Al has had difficulty with should be on Rogue Traders on TV. I know of at least three other people who have had to take legal action to recover their money in the last three years.

I've looked into the online official claims process before. 4.5% of proceeds at the level we're at with car values. Hardly good value...
