If you take a look at the thread on recommissioning a 67S ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=54063&hilit=recommission&start=135 ) you can see during and after pics of the paint, then some really good during and after wet sanding and polishing pics too.. It can give a perfect finish, but it does take time and effort!

Robin will be pleased that you've quoted his '67 as a benchmark - he and that car are just up the road and it is as fantastic in the flesh as it looks online. He benefited from working right next door to the bodyshop that did the work so could keep them at it!!

Thanks Chaps,

Andy, that's pretty much what mine will be like with obvious exception of black horn grills and lens surrounds. Only difference will be the front bumper where I'm going to fit fogs.

I see yours had the deeper S sill trims also - do you know if it had these in the US or could these have been added in a UK restoration? Also, did yours ever have over-riders on the front?

Cheers,

Al.

Just checking because I mistakenly called the nice number plate bracket in an earlier photo a 'bumper bracket'...you mean the front over-riders right?

Al - I imported the car from the US & it already had the wide anodised sill trims fitted as part of its original 'S trim' options package.

There were no front overriders on it - nor any holes in the bumper or trim ...

That's pleasing but it does highlight all the issues. Firstly the Acident Repair Centre besiede me is best known for quick turnaround, low cost repairs, normally the last place you would trust with your treasured 67S. But I spoke with all the guys - fabricators, painters etc. to determine how best to do the job. Bottom line is they spend 250 hours on it, (not counting the 300 hours Johnny my fabricator previously spent "tidying up" small areas that needed attention. Ok there we some minor areas of rust in the rear quarter panels that we hadn't initially picked up on, and wouldn't have picked up on had we not decided to take it back to metal. Unless you're 100% sure there is no rust under the paint then back to metal it must go.

Then it was the decision to use Glasurit paint and clear coat - they normally use much lower quality paints on accident repair vehicles, but again you get what you pay for. In summary bear in mind the trade price of the Glasurit paints/lacquer was £980+VAT then add on the cost of 250 hours.... IMO there are no short cuts in painting what is a valuable car.

Ref No plate brackets

I thought you mean the triangular brackets with the 40mm dia hole in them.
Very flimsy and comes loose quickly too, hence me converting to a stick-on below the bumper deco strip.
