It feels it!

Fitted the bloody awkward trombone cooler pipe set this afternoon. Certainly focuses the mind with all that fresh 'expensive' paint about.
All in now and very tight, no rattles there.
Next week is interrupted by lots of work/family things and a school day too with a stack of ever enthusiastic primary school kids, what a box of frogs they are!
Great to spend time with boundless excitement, most rewarding.

Thus progress may slow down next week, but I aim to get the engine completely in by end of next week or before, just need a nice clear day and an engine hoist that won't fail.

Little overspray, but spray dust in in certain visible places, so some careful detailing with black Smoothrite needed.

I think Gary (the specialist who does the mega re-assembly work for some on here) must have one of the most satisfying jobs in the Porsche Specialist world.

There is a lot to do, and I'm spending ages matching all the new fasteners dotted everywhere.

Had a good long day at the car today, the ride height lowered by 15mm to remove the rally stance of the car. Oddly easier with the drive train out.

Engine/box back in and all the connections made and re-checked, clutch works and engine hoist packed away! :alien:

I'm going to complete the whole rear, the inner wings, the light and all the valances and engine lid to be fitted and completed, might get that all done this week.

Will do the interior after ready for the new screen and rear screen fitting, and then all the wipers and front heating back in and the tank re-fitted.

I think that might take me close to Xmas, but would like to get the door on and fitted up before then if I can.

New CV's on the shafts gifted by Aston, thank you again.

Engine slipped in without a fight. I have had this lot in and out about 25 times and it seems I never do it the same way as another time, but it popped in well. :)

Incredibly, the new gaskets for the CV's all went on without ANY bother, and that must be almost a first for me.

After a good start this week, a mild dose of The Lurgie struck, to be expected after risking 3 sessions at a local Primary School in as many weeks...

Fed up of even watching the Snooker, ventured back into the garage this morning for a few hours (before watching the Snooker Final). :)

Put the rear bumpers back on, impressed that the rubber seal strips were still soft and pliable after 28 years. all bolted up and felt ready to fit the rear panel, another Dansk part, so a bit nervey, didn't trial fit it!

After a minor tweek to the bumper brackets that mount the over-riders it all went on, but one bumper overrider is rotted through.
I repaired these in '89 and were locally re-chromed so have lasted well, the other is fine, so work stopped until a new one comes from Design911.

Easy to repair, but the time for chroming at this time of the year is painful in these parts, around 6 weeks, so it has to be new, can't wait that long.

Tomorrow is the start of the interior re-fit, and I hope to order and get fitted the glass next week.

Xmas soaks up a lot of time!

Got a day in the garage today with a short list to get the door perimeter trim on the A and B posts re-stuck down ready to get the door seals on tomorrow. Using EVOstik or similar which has worked well despite the temperature.
Glad I don't do upholstery on cars...

Dash top back on, good tidy under the dash and tie-up some loose loom runs hopefully to reduce a few rattles, wipers in and finally the heater box, satin black the air intake frame and grill and black the same area and a few others.
Cleaned all the loom to the fuse boxes and actually attached securely the petrol vapour 'carbon ' box, it has bee rattling under there for decades. (does it work?).

Plan for tomorrow is to finish the air grill off, re-paint the tank area and brackets, fix the screen wash bottle and paint the insides of the battery boxes. Re-fit all the rear cabin trim panels and brightwork etc.

If I can I will order the front glass and arrange a visit to install the front and rear screens for next week.

I wonder when the dash top will come off and expose this little message? The German factory crayon chassis number is long gone with the RHD conversion so I thought this a fitting substitute.

Indeed it does John, but may be Kristie will see is off at some time, I hope she will inherit the old banger.
That assumes I don't have to sell to pay for an OAP home..... :lol:

I hope to get more done tomorrow, order the glass and fitting and all the side interior in.
This week I hope to also black the doors and dress the front and rear lids.

Progress has slowed down, need to get my finder out!

Chad, I leave such messages on all my restorations always hidden :)

The material is off eBay, cheapest I could find, bloody heavy mind, but does kill off a lot of engine noise, super super sticky.
I hope never to have to remove it.
Whole car cost about £25.

A few hours in the garage today.
The build up takes for ever....

Rear deck lid 'populated' and all badges cleaned of old wax out of the corners, lights in and looks nice.
In the front bay, ready for the tank, washer bottle etc all in and any overspray/dust removed off the loom.
Then the Big Bit, putting my 'feature' fabric sunroof back in. Difficult and a good job I have small hands, the roll cage is exactly where all the fixing studs are but all back in, headlining tight again and pulled closed.

Had an expensive box of bits from Design911 arrive, and 30 mins later the very same order arrived. Nothing ever goes simply for me.

Closer to getting the glass in but will be after the festive season now I think. Pity as it now holds the door install up and hence the front wing fit-up.
Still lots to do and the details take a lot of time up.

Pondering if to keep the stock 2 in/1 out silencer or go hill climb silencer with 2 in/ 3 out and the best sound track ever, but a bit Boy Racer (?)
Can't fit the rear panel etc until I've thought about it.

The person across the road who was sensitive to noise from my car/me has just moved away, what a nice Xmas pressie. :bigsmurf:

Basket weave dash re-face looks great.
My bid on the old period radio was lost on ebay by 50p, so will re-fit the radio blank plate when the material arrives.

Thanks, helps me decide.

The 2 in/3 out all open is a cracker, makes even the 3.2 sound like a 2.4 mech injection......
well, nearly.
Oddly, the engine tick over goes up by 200 rpm when all 3 are open.

I need to change it over before the new fresh unscarred rear panel goes on. Never bothered about the old panel as it had been through a lot of abuse, esp when Bob Watson had it on Oselli's rolling road, burnt the lower edge to bare metal using this silencer.

You are right. A good screen man will be used to fitting glass with doors and side glas in let alone full interior. Got all the blacking to do yet.
I have some errands to run on the Boxster soon and need to get this car done!

There is a definite light at the end of this short tunnel. :)

Doors all blacked in the right places, that actually went well, and did not take long for a change.

Dug the 2 in/ 3 out silencer out of the shed to check it over. Found a small series of corrosion holes which as we all know 'develops' into an area the size of London before you find some steel.

Gas welded a patch about 80 x 40mm to the one end where all the dross from the rear wheel strikes, but the other side is solid.
Nice to do some gas welding for a change and it came out well. The patch is hardly invisible, so I hope the MoT man won't spot it. Painted the side pipe embellisher to complete the 'restoration', but a smart chrome one would look more classic car...

Will fit it again next week. It was made by Leistrikt (spelling) and has a 911 number just about visible on it.
As far as a I know these are NLA.

Encouraged, off came the front wings and sprayed stone chip inside and then Hammerite Smooth Black (gloss). This finish has proven very durable on the car when I painted so much of the underside in '89 so using it again. A very boring and choking task, but now done.

Some parts of the wings 'missed' getting a fresh coat of paint so coated those areas with Tecaloid oil brushing paint, again a hang over from 1989 and still perfect and a good colour match!

So, Xmas will happen and back in the garage next Thursday unless I get a pass out.
