Bent 356
Here are some pics of my bent 356 that a pal of mine was unable to see on another Porsche web site.

Re: Bent 356
Ooh thats not nice to see. What a shame.
Will it be insurance repaired or is it something you are able to tackle yourself?
Hope its not too long until its sorted.
Karl.

Sorry to see that, it looks expensive and requiring a skilled specialist.

Ah thats a real shame, do hope its sorted for you. There was no rust underneath the damage, looked perfect metal on the wing and nose.

Re: Bent 356
Three weeks on and I'm still waiting for authority to commence repairs. Quite honestly I would much rather fix it myself. I bought the front end metal from Karmann Konections years ago when I started the restoration, plus a wing (nearside) and stitched the lot on myself, all gas welded, so I could be well on my way to having it done by now. I just hope 'they' don't write off the beast.

Re: Bent 356
I have just learnt that that woman who crashed in to me has had her car written off. Her damage was minimal, just a dent in the front bumper but is was an O2 year vehicle, a Honda Jazz so obviously not worth repairing. She received £1400 and has bought herself another Honda Jazz but an 06 year car. So all her problems are solved, and I'm still waiting for the third party insurers inspector to inspect not only my car but also the repairers premises. I'm starting to think I've got the wrong end of the stick here. Oh well.

Re: Bent 356
If the quote to repair comes into too expensive and the insurance co say they will write the car off , see if you can do a deal with the insurer to take a lower cash alternative so you repair yourself and they don't write the car off. I've done this before. Everyone wins.

Re: Bent 356
Only if the repair costs exceed the insured value of the car will they write it off. They will often even ask you to retrogressively up your premium to try and save the car. However I’d be concerned that the assessor has taken so long to appear, especially if the car is with an appropriate repairer.

Re: Bent 356
Thanks for the comments, I am being very cautious with all what is or rather isn't going on. The matter of a write off did cross my mind and I will not be letting anyone have possession of the car without my say so. I think it is secure in the workshop of Classic Fabrication but I will be straight down there and pull the car out on the first sign of any weird dealings. I am just hoping that next week will bring some positive action.

Re: Bent 356
Just a little update, the insurance accessors have visited Classic Fabs and I and they await the approval of estimates for the go ahead for the repairs. Steve Kerti, the main man of Classic Fabrications has really got into my car and his list of work required is comprehensive to say the least. I'm sure it will come back better than it was pre accident, at least the welding will be a damn site better.

Re: Bent 356
Saw it today (have a photo I can post if you wish) and the accident probably did you a favour judging by the quality of workmanship under all that filler! Steve is certainly the man...Ignatzcatz wrote:Just a little update, the insurance accessors have visited Classic Fabs and I and they await the approval of estimates for the go ahead for the repairs. Quality of workmanship? Done in the best traditions of custom car builds I would say. OK there was a bit a bit of filler in there, (well, quite a bit actually) however it did look good done which is all I could aspire to. Gimme a break will ya and post up that piccy.
