Gear stick lock key missing

Post by Peter Roberts »

I have the lock but no key. can get a blank but how do i get it cut with no key as a pattern?
Is it possible to take it apart and work out the crests from the inserts?
If not what are the options?

Hi, you do need a key to get the lock out unless you can get the pin out thats below, (which simply means removing the gear shift assembly - which is just a couple of bolts but there is a small amount of adjustment so mark where the gearshift assembly sits on the tunnel.) I had a key made for a lock by Sierra Madre in California, in fact I was able to supply the code to the original lock that had been fitted in the car and they cut a key to suite plus rebuilt the lock to match that code. If you think the lock you have is the original one to the car you could always write to Mike at PRS and request a copy of the AFN cardex info that Fraser Nash used to hold. He asks that you make a small donation to pass on to them but it's very worth while as they have all the original lock codes for the Glovebox, ignition, door locks and gear shift locks. Then, ask Sierra Madre to cut you a key to that code, if it works you can get more cut locally.

I have had a lock and key sitting in a draw for two years. Waiting to take it to a locksmith and get it cut.

When I lived in London my mate took his Alfa Duetto glovebox lock to a local locksmith who supplied a key and cut it to the lock.

I was going to do the same, just haven't got my act together yet!

Hi. I seem to have somehow posted this message 3 times so different people are looking at different posts.
I have found a blank and a local South Wales locksmith who claims he can make a key. If successful i will post his details.
Mike from PRS has already responded on the other post that he can cut me a key so if my local guy does not succeed i have another option.
