I have developed a healthy love of cars, Porsche is at the centre of the passion and for reasons unbeknown to myself I seem to find myself seeing different models and series in a different light the more I delve into the brand. The impact bumper cars in my eyes were always an acquired taste, I could see the lineage but they were a stop gap to the 964 or 993 cars. The purchase of my 930 was always supposed to be a way for me to understand the car enjoy it through a light restoration and then sell the car for someone to treasure. Unfortunately I have fallen in love with the car and can't see myself selling, despite the constant pressure from my wife to sell the car so we can buy clothes for the kids and go on holiday.

On the back of all of this pressure and with inspired reasoning and man math calculations I realised the only solution is to by another impact bumper car, lavish some serious love and affection and then sell the pretender. Sounds like a good plan.

As of today, I am now the proud owner of a really clean and solid 1989 3.2 Carrera Targa, flat black with cream interior, 75,000 miles and 7 owners. It has sat for close to 3 years in the same garage and has no rust, the interior is clean and well preserved, hardly any scuffs on the leather, door cards are perfect along with the dash. My plan is to bring her back to life and then sell her. I am now finding myself lying awake imagining myself driving the targa and having to justifying the difference between a 930 and 3.2 targa, both black albeit the 930 is metallic. They are so different in character that its obvious they could easily keep each other company.

Best not fall in love with the Targa when it’s done then Tom.

This problem you have is not uncommon.

The car was dropped off at its current location in September 2015 with 75795 miles on the clock and inspected. The mileage is now 75796.

In terms of issues identified at this time the original inspection list was conveniently left on the seat:

Temporary fuel cap fitted
Bonnet struts weak
Slight damage to OSR seat belt
Cigar lighter not working
Engine smokey would recommend top end rebuild
Bonnet and engine light out
Silencer at rear has exhaust paste
NSR heat exchanger flap broken
Engine oil pipe bracket broken
Rear disk corroded
OSR caliper seized
OSF jacking point corroded
Tyres worn
Oil level sender not working
Front oil cooler pipes badly corroded
Engine oil leak from return tubes and cam carriers

The other obvious thing is it doesn't have its original Fuchs wheels

You say there is no rust but the report picks up on the jack point, Im sure you know the dramas that can be in that area!

I have had a look at the jack point area and it’s not that obvious. Proper investigation will reveal all.

Fuchs are first on the list. I will check the details but I am sure I need 6 x 16 for the front and 8 x 16 for the rear. Think this was change in 88.

It would appear that 1989 (start of the J series) are std at 6J X 16 front and 8J X 16 at the rear. Need to go hunting.

Does anyone have a set or now of any for sale. I had the Turbo wheels done by Nick Moss and they are beautiful, I really think I should go down this route rather than after market wheels. Design 911 are offering an incredible deal for wheels and tyres but I haven't seen these and would hate it if they weren't right.

Tom,I think 8J X 16s were a one year only,and very hard to source.

Added bonus of the number plate coming with the car. Ideally suited for Philip Henry Neilson, if you are on here there is a deal to be done.

Not perfect but if polished only and not chromed could be a starting point for refurb.

Bottom of the engine is very oil-wet.
My 1985 3.2 is 130K in and dry as a bone, never been apart.
Full engine job instead of just a top end, or maybe just the crank oil seal?

The car gets lifted next week and I will soon find out. According to the mechanic who inspected it, things aren’t as bad as it looks.
