Mike Karavasili

Post by rhd racer »

Very sorry to read in Porsche Post today of Mike's passing at just 57.

Mike was a fabulous guy who loved our cars and helped keep many on the road. He helped me back in the early days with advice on the RHD conversion, and I watched him race a few times, most notably at Prescott where drove down from Cheshire in his blue 914/6, competed, then drove home. I recently found a diary that he gave me in the late 90s or early 2000s with a 914 on the front.

A talented guy away from Porsches he used to split his time between the UK and France where he was a ski instructor in the winter.

RIP Mike

I never knew Mike but do know he knew and worked on my 914 at some point and still have invoices to prove he repaired the hell hole amongst other things. Sad news.

Sad news. He was a really nice, knowledgeable guy (especially about 914's!) and good company for an evening.

Oh, and he could show anyone how to drive a 914 quickly and tidily on track!
Rest in peace, Mike.

I know I'm late to add to this, but I've not been visiting DDK much and I hadn't heard of Mike's passing.

I met him only once, late last summer when I turned my 914 around on the drive and as I drove back towards the garage a car stopped outside and Mike got out to introduce himself, having chanced to pass at that moment.

I knew the name, and that his workshop had been only a few miles away, but no more than that. We chatted for a while and he told me how he was heading back to France the next day, but gave me his number and told me to get in touch about his remaining stock of 914 bits, 'I'm not giving stuff away, but it'll be very cheap'.

So my entire impression of the man from a single meeting was that he was interested, enthusiastic, and generous with his time and money - not a bad summary for a life, or be it too short a one.
