1970 911T Cigy Lighter- want to charge my phone but...

Post by PureLines9 »

...the charge plug contacts clearly don’t align with socket in dash in a way that will provide a charge. The cigy lighter does work, burnt finger to prove it

Thoughts:
- fit off the shelf charge point discretely beneath dash panel and wire up?

- are there charge plugs available that might work with a 1970’s charge socket?

Interestingly the cigy socket screwed directly out of dash without needing to remove speaker etc.

Thoughts?

HNY!

Not sure quite why it isn't ... My ciggy lighter works with all charger sockets ... IF I use match sticks to wedge it in , because the ciggy socket is very slightly larger dia than modern charging sockets ( not the case with all but it is with most )

I've had this before - rotating it a few degrees or sticking a plastic wedge in usually works. Have you tried pulling the 'prongs' out a bit? They've often relaxed after holding a fag lighter in place for forty years...

It’s a US car, might that be a factor?
Could swap lighter out for UK version I suppose...

Have found that chargers take the live feed from the rivet at the bottom of the socket as opposed to the orig ciggy lighter that took it from the side of the lower springy bit. If there’s any rust in the rivet, this stops the contact. Also run uk & USA cars & have found them the same size so any charger etc. fits both cars.
