Paint ID code plate

During the painting of my car many years ago the paint code plate was removed and lost. As I still have the 4 little holes in the door pillar I may as well refit one, but I have three questions:

1.Who sells a decent looking item?
2.Does anyone offer a stamping service?
3.As the car has been repainted not in the original colour would you use the original code, new code or leave blank?

It seems a little irrelevant to me to have an ID tag unless the details on it are are original. It is after all an “I.D.” tag along with the others.

I think JohnM used to do the stamping At one point.

Can’t help with the purchase of a duplicate tag (for accuracy) but have seen it discussed on here before.

They are available from Porsche, as are the rivets.

i will do the same, replace plate with new paint code to provide details for any future paint information that might be required.

Does anyone have a photo of a recent one from Porsche? Does it look properly authentic? (Various other sources exist, some of which are really good...)

Mike, good point but I can also see the relevance of what Dave said when you have a 'bitsa' car.

I have done a little searching and it appears that a company in Sweden do a plate that is better that the current offering from Porsche, but I was hoping that someone would have a good UK source?

Original in the centre, Porsche on RHS and repro on LHS. The Type911 offering looks more like the Porsche but less like the original.

The 1970 MY is a one year only tag unlike any of the above.
The actual type depends on whether your car was factory or Karmann built.


But would you be interested in that kind of original detail if non original information were being put on it?

Ralph I have a stamp set which is pretty close to the original (on the paint tag) if you wanted to pop over and borrow it.

Yes, if your car was not Karmann built you will not require a riveted tag but a foil type sticker.

Confused. Mine was Porsche built, 1970 model, shipped December 1969. Deffo riveted... And 99% certain original, judging by the original paint underneath and the neatness of the rivets.
Any ideas?
