I think had the patina not been so amazing, and bizarrely had such good panels rust wise then she would maybe have continued her path down the road of sacrificing herself for others but she's such an awesome looking car (to me anyway) she just had to be saved.
Matt has been responsible for some of the most ambitious barn door vw bus saves here in the UK so I know she is in safe hands. He did say mine is the worst 912/911 he's ever had the pleasure of touching though but I'll take a positive from that somewhere.
No, unfortunately not - although I do know which 912 it is currently residing in so as soon as it is out of that car's grasp I will be claiming it back.stretch wrote:Do you have the matching engine for this.? Wow, a new meaning for patina...! Good luck with the build.

Re: '66 912 resurrection
So the first week of her stint in the operating theatre is over and the chassis rail work is nearly done - next week Matt is aiming for everything aft of the B pillars sorted. She's now on the jig, and hopefully soon the doors will fit back in the holes that they were designed for.

Yeah I'm thinking something along those lines, lumpy cams and Porsche cooling.murph2309 wrote:Fookinell - Thats got proper rust! This is going to be cool.

Would have been interesting to see what was left if it had been dipped!

Re: '66 912 resurrection
Another week, another metalwork order and more progress from deepest Cornwall. One of the heater tubes was saveable bringing the tally of saveable parts so far to a wholesome two if you don't include the clutch cable. The other side was fabricated and looks jolly splendid, its a shame parts of the build like this are forever hidden.
Door shut lines are now perfect and as you can see, I now have a floor albeit just mocked up for measurements. Feels like a huge milestone though and a million miles from the car it was last week.

Re: '66 912 resurrection
Another week, another stint on the old girl. After using a lot of cutting discs I'm sure its nice for Matt to switch to the welder and thats what he's been doing with vengeance. For the first time in a long time this 912 now is solid from the A posts back and looking so spectacular for it. It makes me smile real hard when I look at these pictures and excited for the next stage. Onto the nose, then paint on the belly and inside floor pan and back she comes.
I just need to choose what colour combo I go with for the underside and the suspension....
Any latecomers to the party don't panic (or break out in a cold sweat dependant on your viewpoint) I'm only painting the underside/inner arches etc in a mint finish - the outer sills will be blended back in to the patina.
Planning a visit to her this week now I've broken up for christmas.

Looking great - what colour are you thinking of? Was it originally polo red (6602)

Re: '66 912 resurrection
I believe so yeah - I was thinking doing the original colour on the inside of the pan so it stands out when you lift the carpet to take a look, original colour on inner arches and black on the pan underside. Not sure on the suspension yet but probably black or grey as I don't want to over egg it. Inside the front will boot area will be trimmed to match the cabin and the engine bay will again be the original colour.Ian Gunney wrote:Looking great - what colour are you thinking of? Yeah it was pictures of Dave's bus on instagram that first bought Matts work to my attention, then after seeing it at DTA I knew I'd made the right choice. Top bloke as well.Sam McMahon wrote:This is going to be an epic resto, seen matts work first hand on Dave’s 23 window barndoor. Unbelievable work.

Stole an hour in the garage last night with a beer while the wife was with friends getting festive and removed the baked seals out of the rear quarter lights - who supplies the best replacements?
Suspension is off to the blasters straight after new year so need to get that stripped asap.
