Project Blue Book

Post by chief »

Hi All,
Thought it was about time I introduced 'Project Blue Book'....
I have a thread running over the way, but thought I could be useful to share.

Arrived to meet the others....
Supplied by Angus at the camper co.
This is kinda how it's looking now

Most of the photos are over on the link, but I will start posting them up here as well.
I've been encouraged by Phil LMR to share with the 914 posse here. So 'Hello All'.
All the best,
Chief

That's looking awesome. Great to see yet another 914 being transformed. Be sure to keep us updated over here on DDK.

Thanks fellas,
As Phil keeps telling me it's not a race....That comes when the cars are finished
Here are a few or the worrying shots, and believe me when I say WORRYING!

Stitched with mig first, then tig welded. I reasoned that with the tig being a softer weld, we could panel beat the arch after the weld had shrunk it.

Man alive do you cut some metal out!!!

The arches needed a fair amount of beating to get the wrinkles out from the original pressing although the quality of the AA panels is pretty good. Having a softer weld was the key, mig being very hard and prone to cracking when hit repeatedly!
I will post up more of the bonnet cutting when I have a chance, but for now....

Looking good. Certainly some scary cutting!
What were the outer sill covers like and are you looking for a new home for them or modifying them to fit?

I was toying with putting a GT style filler on mine. After seeing what is involved I think I'll chicken out of attempting that now! :D

Looks great though!

You and me both. Still considering it though, love a challenge. Anyone got a spare bonnet?

Keep up the good work Chief.
