Myself and Will (willchappell1) are heading over to Essen for this year's Techno Classica. Last time we stayed in Essen town which we found to be a bit quiet in the evenings. Can anyone recommend anywhere else to stay? Anyone else planning on going?

We love it that it's quiet! But then I guess Del and I are (getting) old... :)

I'm going with Deeman of this here parish. Will be driving over, so would appreciate recommendations of places to stay that have parking and easy access to the S-bahn to the exhibition hall!

You'd better get a move on - places fill fast. Try booking.com

Finding any this late will be difficult! The Mercure has lots of secure parking, but not a very exciting hotel.

Sounds good to me.

I've found a nice looking hotel in Dusseldorf with what looks like good parking, has a Ferrari parking up  ...

An Essen virgin, eh? Prepare to be blown away by the sheer quantity and quality of cars, not only Porsches (of which there are many) but also classics of every kind. Tons of dealers, tons of memorabilia, and tons of cars and parts for sale. Go once and you'll be hooked for life.

I sure would like to meet up and get to 'know' DDKers there. I guess wandering around the Porsches will be many of us but how do we know? Should we some sort of symbol - like a DDK sticker on our coat/ sweatshirt/fleece. A windscreen sticker on a home made badge would be good but I'm not sure Bootsy could supply them in time.
So, what do you think? Just a simple 'DDK' (including first name/username?) on a home-made label?
Comments welcome.

I Ian - I like you will be there I'll also be bringing fellow Northern Irishman Al (flat6) with me. Need something so we know who we are or to arrange to meet at the show for lunch...or after for a beer, or lunch for a beer......

Every other show you go to will seem tiny compared to Essen. Even the Autosport show.

How about a whatsapp group? We've booked a hotel in Dusseldorf, anyone else staying there?

Yes - we're in Dusseldorf and yet a whatsapp group sounds like a good idea......
