It is a well known car named Barbarossa, detailed in 'The Roots of a Legend- Porsche 901' by Jurgen Lewandowski. It is one of the earliest survivors.
There is a wonderful story of how it was found, well worth reading

Re: 1964 901 Cab.
Sorry Ian, but Barbarossa is a totally different car - it's chassis #13327 and is a coupé, and is THE oldest known survivor. By coincidence, we have a seven-page feature on Barbarossa in the next issue of Classic Porsche...DEEMAN wrote:It is a well known car named Barbarossa, detailed in 'The Roots of a Legend- Porsche 901' by Jurgen Lewandowski. Re: 1964 901 Cab.
Thanks Keith, I haven't got my copy of 'The legend' at hand (loaned it to someone about a year ago) so I got that wrong. I will await my copy of CP with interest - as always.

Re: 1964 901 Cab.
It will be interesting to see what price it is being 'advertised' for. The owner of Barbarossa has reputedly turned down over a $1million for his. If an exceptional RS is valued at that, then to me a prototype with provenance is worth far more...
Re: 1964 901 Cab.
Am I the only one thinking it odd that this car - and the GTO - are being advertised?
Surely these are the kinds of car that change hands on the quiet for vast sums, or end up with Kidston or similar. We all know that the "best" cars are not advertised or end up at a Pebble Beach type auction. I can see why Talacrest might advertise the GTO in a "look at us, we can market this kind of a car" kind of a way but it's still a surprise to me.

Re: 1964 901 Cab.
What RS can be sold for 1 million these days?
The high market for 70's cars is over.
It will only be worth something if one of major collectors want it.
Didn't realise that a Simon Kidson was that important compared with London gang .

Re: 1964 901 Cab.
901 Cab now for sale today - BE QUICK. Sothebys. 850,000 - 1,000,000 Euros. Interestingly it has a British registration number . Note the wipers are parked in front of the driver and the Fuchs which were not thought of at that time. No doubt some eagle-eyed folk will notice other unexpected details
