Great work Mark.
Good job you got that engine in before your pals were confined to their homes!
You'll at least have something to keep you busy at home.
Enjoy the rest of the build and watch that fresh paint.

Thanks! Yes, I've got plenty of solo work to do. Already going to need a couple of paint repairs, worst was i dropped the glass in the door while fitting, popped out a little pimple and broke the paint, arghh!Flat 6 wrote:Great work Mark.

Arrggghhh! big school boy error I think. I've got the dash pad and windscreen back in and I forgot to install the wiper motor assembly that is attached through the top of the metal dash area first
Any ideas on how to solve or do I have to take the dash out?

Should still be OK, I've taken the wipers out with removing the dash before. Honestly can't remember how other than it being really fiddly and losing a knuckle or two!
Re: 1973 US 911T 2.4 MFI - Mark A
Theres a kind of webbing insulating hanger that is attached to the top of the dash structure, i took that out rather than leave the hanger in. Cant see a way round this.Gary71 wrote:Should still be OK, I've taken the wipers out with removing the dash before. I was trying to remember back to when i put my wiper motor in at the end of last year and i think, sadly, you are right. If you didnt put the 2 fabric hanger screws in before fitting the screen and dash top, i think you might be knackered
If you dont want to remove the dash top, can you get a rivnut in from underneath and screw it in from the bottom rather than the top?
You will also have an amusing time fitting the rubber seats for the windscreen washer nozzles through the scuttle top....

Yes, a mistake!
What about 2 long pop rivits?
Anything under there is a pain, literally.

Rivnuts is a good call but not much swing room under there
I presume it is possible to remove the dash pad with the windscreen in?

Ah OK, yes I split the mechanism at the lower joint.
There seems to be reasonable clearance above the fixings for a rivnut or pop rivet.
Certainly preferable to trying to get the dash out with the screen in. This is possible but risks breaking fixings and or the dash structure when you twist it.

Thanks what I should have done thanks for all the tips, I think rivnuts is the way to go.Gary71 wrote:Ah OK, yes I split the mechanism at the lower joint.

M3 rivnuts are the only ones that fit. Just waiting for M3 bolts to land in the post to see if I can rescue this.

Looks great Mark, I'm going give OCS a call tomorrow to see if they can finish and paint my rear bumper. They are only about 10 mins from home.

Hi All,
Long time since I've been on here with an update. Lots been going on. I managed to correct my cock up of installing the dash cover before fitting the wiper motor. Now sorted with rivnuts. Lots of progress elsewhere. Engine is in fuel system is in, Jonny's CDI+ is in and she is running! Plenty of dial in to do though. Glass is back in all round, even if a i did drop a door glass in the door resulting in a dimple on the door skin, arghh! I guess a few paint repairs to be expected as it goes back together.
It has very little interior, only one seat, but I got it to Lee at Octane Garage, he's done the initial engine setup to allow me to do the run in mileage. He also took care of a host of other jobs including suspension set up/ride height and wheel alignment, plus some electrical gremlins. its back at home now, the first drive was great. Next jobs are to make it weather proof, it has no door seals or fresh air box. Then run in the engine even if it only has one knackered seat in it. So i'll be driving it on dry winter days to get the mileage done and then back to Lee for final set up and CDI+ optimisation. I'm restoring the seats myself and that will continue over the winter, as will door cards/furniture and carpets and some trim.
I'll get some pictures up soon.
Cheers

Well the slowest resto thread ever is still here, I really must increase the frequency otherwise this will take decades!
Where were we? Back end......
bother ordered the wrong bits!
trial fit, rubber seal to follow
with seal
need to trim that lid seal
DIY seat resto has been going on with Lakewell kits, pictures next time
