While at the front and with access from underneath Barry reported on the front pan.

“Overall the front pan isn't bad at all, but it's base had corroded on one side, and was dented on the other. This is the first of two batches for this area. With a repair panel fabricated, a final size hole could be cut in the pan, and the area primed up ready for welding. Any of my repair panels get blasted on the inside surface, just to help the primer grab on to the metal better.”

The other side was given the same treatment. Notice the mounting tab was reformed too.

Thanks for the update Mike.

The image-hosting problems must be very frustrating - I'm afraid I can't help with any suggestions for a 'fix' though as I've always used Flickr

.

Great to see this pop again Mike. I was asking Rich about the car whilst we were at Le Mans. My build thread was hit by Photobucket too and I switched over to PostImage. A frustrating experience I don't want to go through again.

Thanks Richard and Stephen. Your threads are inspiration for everyone and will become reference guides for years to come. Me, I’m trying to go a different route with this one but we shall see.

Thanks Andy. I’ve put my eggs in the postimage camp already. Two mistakes so far, surely I can’t make a third!

Mike

Always thought you were a secret outlaw. I look forward to the pics of the chrome (replica) Fuchs etc.

You’re avin a laugh aren’t you Darren? Everything is sorted except the steering wheel. I can’t find it anywhere and I just won’t ever drive it without the original......

Sticking with the floor Barry moved on to an area which I know is very complicated, hidden and would be easily bodged and covered over if not done properly. The problem was here on this shell too. It was the same on both sides but I will just show one side in pictures.

Barry had straightened the floor, then improved the centre tunnel to a nice finish and then turned his attention to the rear corner areas which had obviously previously been worked on with several incorrect surface repairs and patches.

Further investigation reveals what is underneath these old patches.

Is this what’s underneath your car with a shiny top surface or an exterior floor pan loaded with underseal or waxoyl thinking you have it well protected?

As Barry says “a very fiddly repair” and you can only admire the complexity of the repair pieces made, welded in and paint protected (in all the little cavities) and then surface reformed back to match the rest of the floor.

And then repeat on the other side.

You can only marvel at the craftsmanship, the patience and the time involved to do things properly.
