The boys finally found a bit of rust..its under the rear seat and above the torsion bar...looks like water must have been collecting from a leak in the rear window. Its an easy repair...hopefully

Here in the UAE there are very few options for paint removal. There was a soda blasting firm but it went bust and shotblasters are used to blasting oil rigs etc...there is a company that provides dry ice blasting to industry but had never done a car.

Fortunately the owner is total petrol head and wanted to experiment. We are half way through the process..and the great thing is that the original underseal is being kept intact (so pleased about this I cant tell you).

We had tried to limit the blasting to removal of paint and to leave the original primer but its wasn't possible..

Well...that bit of the rust...turned into... a tip for any 911 owner...make sure your check those seals!! (note that most of the brown is not rust..its glue!)

Not the end of the world. the other areas are super solid and no major accident damage uncovered..

Crikey, it just goes to show you what lies beneath and damage caused by a leaking seal.... note to one self to properly fit new window seals!!!

Saying that, the rest of the bodywork looks amazing, (wish mine looked like that when stripped!)

Great thread :)

A little bit of front end fun..again, nothing too drastic and I guess all 44 year old cars have had some damage in their past. I just love some of the repairs...they made me chortle.

Fortunately the front corners are easily available..and now I understand why the bonnet didn't quite as well as it could

So a bit more exploratory scraping showed that the rust isnt all that bad..and the panels arrived all the way from the USA (togther with a huge number of goodies...however...one side is from a pre 72 and the other post...doh....

The body shop is wanting to keep all the original spot welding intact and letting in these pieces only where there is rust.

The rear shelf is not too bad either..so all in all not too bad.

Some more goodies..

I ordered a genuine new dash top from Porsche. Its worth noting that the speaker grille is included and doesn't need to be ordered separately.

Would you believe it was only 1k usd. Well worth every penny. Plus my old dash is in great shape (but incorrect for my car- its the one without the separate grill- funnily enough there is a receipt from the main porsche dealer to supply and fit it in the early 80s)- that should bring a few hundred dollars on ebay one day...
