Me & my rustbucket 2.45
Hello,
Another new member to this great resource.
I have recently acquired 400kg of rust dating from Sept 72, signal yellow.
The (US-based) PO has the brilliant idea to cover rust with bondo and transform it into a 993 !!!!
So, I am on journey to get it back to this:
The goal is not concours state (too late for that anyway, as non-matching block), but rather to have a fun and reliable driver's car. Not for track use, but rather Sunday cruising.
Engine work is progressing, with a move from a basic T to an S
- 86mm JE pistons with increased compression (technically to 2.45l)
- Heads updated to S
- 40 Weber's IDTPs adapted to match S-spec
- Have E cams, but contemplating S-mod cams
- plus all efforts for reliability, "while in there": oil bypass & carrera pump, chain tensioners, dilavar studs, re-enforced intermediate gear, turbo valve covers.
cheers,
Martin

Welcome to DDK, good luck with your project and don't be scared to post up the 'before' photos!
Re: Me & my rustbucket 2.45
welcome Martin
Sounds like a project if it currenlty looks like a 993
An S-Spec engine is superb .. lots of character and always makes you smile when it comes on cam screeming beyond 7K

fiberglass stuff went to the dumpster first day it arrived. Needs pretty much every exterior body part....
Fuchs are older 8.5" copies, so they'll go as well.

Welcome !
Your yellow photo shows an earlier S, not a 72 S, the front bumper/spoiler is different. Owning a 72 S myself I'd recommend rebuilding the engine as a correct 72 S with MFi not carbs. Good luck with the project and keep the faith.

Dave, I'm all for preserving originality if this would be a highly rare car, such like yours - but, not sure where you read the 'S' - this is/was only a simple T with a comfort package, so it will indeed have the S front bumper. Given that it is not a matching #, I might go as well as make the engine an S. (I also struggle with putting on the original color...)
btw - read your amazing "Sepia brown" thread - very inspiring!!

Re: Me & my rustbucket 2.45
Welcome. That 993 forward-date is quite something.
Time to start a restoration thread, I think. Post lots of pics...
Here are the body parts that came off my 70 S, which had been turned into an eighties special in obligatory Guards Red:
Quite satisfying (if a fair bit of work) to get them back to their original state...
Good luck, have fun!
Cheers, Richard.
