Where to get 912 engine rebuild kit

Post by Mr912 »

Hi all, does anyone know where to get a 912 engine rebuild kit, or anyone that can put one together for me? Also out of interest if anyone has done a rebuild how did they find it and how much did they put into parts? There's lots online but mainly American and it's hard to make phone calls at work, so online links would be great , if not phone numbers are fine as I'm going to take a day off next week and make a parts list and start phoning around

Thanks all !
The stable.

You could speak to Max at Revival Cars.
There are others but he's very close to you.

Firstly are you going to have a go your self? If so there isn't really a rebuild kit. You have to access what can be used. Have a look at tunes Tom's thread on here he recently had his engine rebuilt it could cost you 10 to 15k if you just give it to someone to sort

Just a word of caution. Has your friend worked on 616 engines before? There are quite a few stories of people on here that have had a friend help with build but ended up going to Max/PRS/Chris/Andy Pril etc to sort the mess out. It all starts with the best intentions. Have a look at this thread where Peter Graham, who is very good with these cars, rebuilds his own engine but is helped out of quite a few problems by Jack/Tim (who are two very experienced engine builders in the states).

I have a set of videos which I don't really need anymore. Let me know if you can't find them, not sure what they are worth.

The amount of work required depends on the state of the engine, or, in my case, the person that has worked on the engine before. Be ready for a few awkward bits and the names and numbers of good engineering firms are priceless, saved fortunes on my valve guides alone just because a local engineer could make customs ones, otherwise it would have been a lot more work and money, even new heads.

Good luck with it though, and if you can, do it once, do it properly, don't skimp on parts etc, it pays off trust me.
