Removing front bumper

Post by RSGulp »

Just a quick one... How many fastenings hold the front bumper to the body on a '73 911. Is it just the two brackets inside the bumper corners or are there any bolts at the front/centre of the car? I can't quite work it out from the PET.

I have a new front seal to fit (body to bumper and across the front lip of the front hood compartment. I assume I need to remove the bumper to fit it properly.

Cheers, Rich

There are 2 brackets attached to the front inner wings, accessed from inside the boot.

Thanks Nick. So I assume two bolts either side of the boot near the batteries, and a bracket each side inside the bumper corner and it should come off.

I'd be interested in how you get on with the fitting. Lots of early cars have their bumpers fitted in a way that leaves a wider gap under the indicator housings on each side sob the the bumper is in effect smiling. It's a very minor thing that most people wouldn't notice, but when you do it it bugs the heck out of you. Not sure how you adjust it out?

The two bolts at each side inside the boot have elongated holes so allow the bumper to be adjusted up or down to ensure it's level and lines up with the bodywork. Fitting the new seal was a pretty easy job. I'll post pics when I get the car out again.
