refinishing fuchs centre caps

Post by Dougieboy1 »

the 3 prong centre caps on my wheels are in dire need of refinishing. the crests in the centre are accented in black paint, as is the outer ring. Is this the original finish or were they just plain metal coloured?

Am not sure what the finish is supposed to be. Looks a bit like sandblasting to give the smooth matt finish and then lacquering?? or is it anodised matt finish?

I looked into this topic for the centre caps of a 1970. A post on early911sregistry got a response from a well know US wheel guru. He maintained that the Porsche crest was not picked out in black on early cars. As for the exact finish I did not receive a response. My original set of caps certainly do not exhibit a polished finish but are anodised.

The original caps are just anodised.

Just re anodised mine , drilled rivets out first and removed the steel retainers to stop them being dissolved by the anodising process , had them plated and re attached with jb weld ..
