Post by hot66 »

See on Facebook someone has got written confirmation from the dvla that black and silver plates can be used on cars built before 1976

I'll try and copy the letter on to here.

Two or three L plates available on the current dvla upcoming auction Russ. All with a reserve of £250 to £750 if you avoid obvious numbers. Don't know what they actually 'sell' for. No doubt buyers commission, VAT and registration fee to add.

Regards
Mike

Indeed,
Not paid the fine .
I've gone all militant Citizen Smith , going to contend it . Dug my best 'court suite ' out of the wardrobe and everything .

I know I could change my plate for something earlier ( my car is a '73 build ) but it's worn that N plate all through its racing life so would like to keep it despite everyone thinking its a backdate .
I think the key to this is the car has to be registered as 'historic' rather than just being old enough for free tax which mine is .

Does it not have to be registered as historic to get the free tax?

Black and silver plates - Russ !

It does . Otherwise the black/silver plate exemption doesn't apply therefore it's a nick able offence . I got stopped on the 11th March . My tax was up at the end of February. Up till then I had been paying for road tax .I had to go into the post office and send off my log book to get it reclassified as historic . I didn't get my log book back until around the 20th of March so there is a question of when I got stopped was my car registered as historic if the DVLA hadn't updated yet ?

Sent it off a couple of days before the end of February so was my car 'historic' the moment I filled in the form and sent off my log book in post office or when someone inputted the data at the DVLA and pressed the save key ?
I was stopped by a motorbike cop on the way in Oulton Park in convoy with about 10 other cars heading to the RS track day .He passed us going the other way then spun round and pulled me .
I've got a lot of time for the police and the very difficult job they do however this chap was doing his best to wind me up despite me being on my best behaviour and giving him no attitude whatsoever. He took a couple of photos of the car incase I decided to challenge it .
It's only £100 fine and no points but tbh it's pi55ed me right off .

Did you have to pay & get a refund on the 20th. If not, you were either driving without tax at all or with historic tax, I'd have thought.
