It's been a while since I updated this thread and 2019 has, for various reasons, been a quiet one for me......but we're about to fix that!

The engine and gearbox builds went perfectly and the car was back to full strength however other than a fun track day at the usual Oulton Park RS event March followed an excellent Welsh trip the car has hardly been used! ....



....luckily though things are about to get busy so the car was sent to Gary Cook at GDC Automotive for a proper service and check over prior to a rolling road session today overseen by Nick Fulljames and Mick from Redtek where the engine showed a heathy 255.6BHP .....



....a run out this evening had me grinning from ear to ear, the car is driving beautifully and feels quicker than it ever has been!

Whilst with Gary I asked him to sort a couple of minor jobs including doing something to keep the windows up as the leather belts had stretched allowing the windows to droop a little.....ignoring my suggestion of a pin stuck through the window frame Gary recalled an old race car he had seen many moons ago that used wing nuts to lock the windows into place......something along the lines of this....



....another perfectly executed piece of detail excellently fabricated using correct period Porsche parts (naturally) the windows now stay secure just as they would have done on that old race car ...



Minor stuff and not really important but great to deal with someone that cares, has an eye for detail and always does the job right!......Cheers Gary

255 bhp ....... boom! That’s very nice although the extra wing nuts will add weight. Can you have them drilled?

....I did worry about the weight although figure I can slim on trip essentials and down to two t-shirts and one pair of underpants

I took the Mongrel out of the garage today for the first time in an age, the car has now clocked up 21K miles since build although embarrassed to admit a mere 400 miles since it's last major service a year ago!



....with the RS Day at Oulton Park this coming Friday, the car was given a thorough check over and pleased to report all is good....





....six and half years and 21,000 enthusiastic miles has been kind to the car and it still looks great....

....I've been somewhat distracted with other toys in the past 12 months but a quick blast today reminded me that nothing trumps an old 911!

With the car running as sweet as it ever has and pulling like a train I can't wait to get back on track, fingers crossed for dry weather!

The 911 looks wonderful, must be a tough call on which car to go for a run in on a sunny day, as I think I spy a Kawasaki Green Superlight R(?) lurking in the shed...

...thanks Ian. Yes, the R400 was a decades old Caterham itch I scratched last summer and it had my full attention last year. I actually drove both cars back to back yesterday, obviously both are terrific fun with pure driver involvement; the R400 is blisteringly quick and razor sharp and whilst you can get both cars to move around on the road, you get to roll on the tyres more in the 911 and it's that period feel that I enjoy most.

When the time comes to have a single car it'll be an old 911 for sure and probably not a particularly quick one at that!
