Over the past couple of years I've had some of the most amazing spine-tingling drives that I've ever experienced in this car.....

....track days at Oulton Park, Goodwood and Castle Combe.....many long drives with close friends through the heart of Wales and trips to Le Mans and Spa.....a taste of the Nürburgring and being pushed off track through Eau Rouge......the greatest driving week ever spent in the Italian and Swiss Alps......along with many, many early morning solo runs.....

....since the car went on the road it's travelled 15,360 eventful miles.....I am indeed blessed :)

....some have been fairly minor and straightforward such as the MFI breaking a stud causing the drive belt to jump teeth.....

.....others a little more serious when it was discovered the pistons were brushing the cylinder heads! :shock:

....worst was at the end of my Alps trip! :( ....

...amazed the thing kept going, it still pulled fine and got me home. No lasting damage and the disk and oil filters did their job but I will have the engine totally stripped (again!) and rebuilt :?

Good news is that it happened at the end of our trip and I didn't miss a single Alpine Pass :P

.......this year the car performed well although the running in recent months has been a little off so when it started to become difficult to select gears the decision was taken to drop the engine and box for a thorough check and service and to hopefully sort a few annoying oil leaks....

...Gary Cook from GDC Automotive came along to lend a hand....

....the gear selection issue turned out to be a cracked and bent fork preventing the clutch from being fully engaged...

...although unfortunately there was also evidence of an oil leak through the main shaft....only a full strip would resolve that so the gearbox was taken to Mike Bainbridge for a proper refresh....

.....I was no luckier with the engine as the main oil leak turned out to be the nose bearing....another full strip if I wanted it resolved! :(

....so, bite the bullet time and let's get this resolved.....with Nick Fulljames currently up to his eyes in development work, Gary Cook kindly offered to step in and help and the engine was taken to him a couple of weeks ago....

Chin up Darren - I don’t know of many other early 911 road cars that get used with the same gusto as yours. The set backs are indeed painful (and expensive) but the high points are also very high! Roll on 2019.
