Proper Fuchs wheel finish

Post by 210bhp »

What a great thread this is..........

http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums ... h-question

The forensic and archeological details described by experienced technicians and engineers ( I hate the words 'specialist', 'expert' etc as those terms are usually Bull Sh{t... ) from years and years of looking at and restoring thousands of wheels.

Now, do you want to get those lovely forged Fuchs highly smoothed-polished, and painted with a laser straight black line? Display your car where the sun reflects with a blinding glint off the spokes?........
Everything shining like a shilling.....
No, they were never like that. History tell us a different story (as related by Harvey and others).

Get your file out and rough those surfaces up a bit......

Regards
Mike

Haha. And Harvey offers a similar finish if requested? I guess the Friday afternoon polished wheels had more file marks than the others!

Mike, when you and I very first met, you suggested that you might use that morning's washing up water - infused with our the fat from our bacon sandwiches - to give the Fuchs on your RS an 'original finish'...

Is that what you are doing with those minilites for me  ...

James

You have a great memory which can't be said for mine but I do have your wheels at the ready believe it or not. Bacon fat might even be better than Gibbs for protection against brake dust but I doubt whether a qualitative study has been done to prove one way or the other so the minilites have a virgin finish for now.
I will advise on shipping soon and I also have read your other 'communication' about routes etc and I promise I will get back to you on Sunday when I next see my shotgun rider for a meeting.

Regards
Mike
