Bob Watson

Post by Darren65 »

I've just heard the very sad news that Bob Watson passed last night.

It would be nice if someone who knew Bob better than myself could let others know just how huge a figure he was over many years to the early Porsche community.

My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

I just heard the sad new too. I never met him but I know the high regard everyone in the Porsche world had for him both as an engineer and a person. My condolences go to his family and friends.

Regards
Mike

Can't believe it. He didn't look well the last time I saw him, but I'm really sad about this. Neil Bainbridge sent this message:

Dear All
It is with great regret that after spending the past months reminiscing old times /our life stories / and lots engine talk and of course motorsport, while I sat in my dyno in the evenings with Bob, that I have been asked By Tina to inform you all that Bob passed away peacefully in hospital Yesterday.

Please if you see I have missed out anyone from the mail or if you can pass on this mail to those you think should be notified it would be appreciated and If anyone needs to contact me please do so I will of course update you all on the final arrangements to see Bob off as I know more.

If you need to contact Tina please drop me a line and I will forward on her contact details.
Regards
Neil Bainbridge

Very sad news :(

Used to take my car to him regularly for a rolling road set up until he closed his doors.

Great guy. Such a shame . It seems we're losing a lot of talent at the moment .

RIP Bob :(

Sad news indeed.

I first met Bob ~ 25 yrs ago & our paths crossed many times in the intervening years - I too used him & his rolling road at Hatch End to set up some of my cars - always friendly service & a mine of information.

A great loss to the Porsche world...

Shocked.

I met Bob in the mid 70's as a customer, buying 356 parts for a European friend and then a few weeks later he drove my 65 911 and was hooked!

A great friend and Mentor who never tired of giving advice based on his vast experience, though you knew you were taking advantage of his overworked and busy days.

Rest in Peace Bob

I'm stunned by this.
I first met Bob at his place to the side of the bakery in Bicester where he had his shop with the very young Paul Brock.
This was in late 1989. I think he had not been on his own for long, and he gave me such a lot of advice and support during my first hill climb years with my 911.
I stayed with his expertise for many many years and sent Xmas cards every year from that beginning.

I saw him enjoy the good years and the bad ones too when expansions seemed to go against him at Hatch End.

A true expert in this field and always had a smile and helping hand when I had trouble.

His recent loss of the business left him looking more gaunt than he normally was, so sad to see this spirit diminished.

I shall remember the many good time chatting at Silverstone or discussing the tuning of my Lola Porsche and my 991T. 3.2 which he encouraged me to build.

So sad,
I had the pleasure of knowing him well to consider him a friend of so many years.

RIP Bob.
