Car has made its way to the shop to get rebuilt, majority of parts are all ready to be put back on the car, suspension/breaks, engine and gear box are all ready and waiting for Gary. Heading off to the shop over the next few days to drop off a car full of parts.
The gear box came back from Mike Fletchers a while back. Originally the 67S transmissions would have been supplied with a standard ratio set up or alternatively there were Nurburgring, fast track, airfield or hill climb set ups available depending on your use. Standard ratio set up was
A F M S Z gears

My box had been rebuilt in parallel with the engine back in 2009 by Tuthills, the spec was:

A 11/34
F 18/34
J 21/31
O 23/28
V 27/25

Tuthills had also installed a Gripper diff this had previously been set up for track/rally use (set to 80%).

On stripping the box a few issues were noted, the 1st gear syncro and slider were shot so these were replaced, all ratio bearings were replaced, high tensile bolts were fitted to selector forks.

Given my car will be used for spirited road use, I decided to revert back to a standard ratio setup, so I purchased new third, fourth and fifth gears. I also decided to retain the Gripper diff.

Gear ratio was as per std road spec:

A 11/34
F 18/34
M 22/29
S 25/26
Z 29/23

The Gripper Diff was set up as follows:

40%
45/65 ramps
4 friction faces
40Nm preload

Mike Fletcher has been really good to deal with, communication throughout rebuilding my engine and gear box have been regular and clear in terms of discussing the specification I wanted to talking through issues, to returning both items on time at the agreed price. Big thumbs up from me.

Hi Mike.

Have to admit I have not come across anyone who has raised aqua/vapour blasting being an issue. I know of a number of the big resto / racing shops who do this, including the one who specialise in swb race cars.

Glad to say the final stage of the project is progressing well. I received a few pictures from Gary last week showing good progress in terms of the front & rear suspension being fitted and wiring loom going in.

Ahead of the suspension going back on the car, a shot of a large bunch of parts which have been stripped, refurbed and powder coated

The front and rear struts on the car should be Koni's, unfortunately for me the car came with a mix of aftermarket struts Blistein on the rear and a set of race struts on the front. Took me quite some time to get my hands on a set of the correct 67S front koni's, these have been stripped and just arrived back from the paint shop. Luckily the inserts for these as well as the rear struts are still available from Koni.

Just been through the whole thread again. Wonderful, so many memories. Even more exciting now completion is not so far away.
Just be Oh So Careful with that paintwork as you assemble.

I am so embarrassed over the marks I have made on mine which have needed to be rectified. :oops:

everyone who has gone through the process of restoring cars state that this is the most enjoyable part of the process..... and so far i would have to agree, managed to get along to see progress this week, suspension front brakes etc all on the car, a few issues with supply of rear discs and a dodgy oil tank where the original adaptor does not align with the holes in the new reproduction tank. currnetly waiting for a reply from Carpoint who supplied the part for what they are going to do to resolve my issue.

In terms of the paintwork, i think its inevitable that scratch etc will be introduced, so Graham from Limn Historiks who painted my car is booked in to detail the car are the end of the rebuild.

Was able to pop into to catch up on progress last week, Front of the car now has the suspesnion, dust shields, discs, hubs and calipers in place.

On the rear the suspesnion is on, just waiting for the rear discs to turn up.

some updates on the easier items i think in any rebuild, firstly the wheels

my choice may not go down well with the purists and members who will no doubt think i should be putting on the correct 4.5" fuchs but hey, its my car and my choice will look correct in all intents and purposes.

When i purchased the car, i quickly looked for a set of the correct 4.5 Fuch wheels, after a number of purchases from various sources and spending a small fortune i managed to get hold of 5 wheels in various conditions, either partly restored or needing a full refurb.

I made a quick decision that i was never going to run the car with such skinny wheels, as all my experience so far had been with running 6.5 minilites and wider rubber.

As i was pondering what to install a set of 5.5" wheels came up on the earlySregistry they had been restored to match the correct Fuch finish for a 67S, so i decided to pull the trigger.

A few photo's of the wheels with my rubber of choice, i have gone for Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4's

My car was first Registered as OLL6E back in 67, Glad to say i have managed to reunite the car with its original registration.

Glad to say my car is coming along quite well, mechanically we are almost there, suspension, breaks systems, fuel system and engine and box are all in:

Interior is coming along picked up my seats from Garry Hall's, very pleased with how Garry has managed to replicate the finish on the 67 sports seat as well as save as much of the Recaro seat material as possible. more on this once there in the car.

So headliner and associated bits are in the car along with the dash and the all important wheel.

One issue we have had is with one side of the front suspension rubbing against the inner tyre, Believe this is down to a slightly bent front strut, so this resulted in having to purchase another set of the hard to find front Koni's, luckily there was a set available from Germany fingers crossed that these turn out to be straight, to date 3 front Koni's purchased from the US and two have ended up being bent.

Just see where the inner wall of the tyre has been rubbing on the upper strut
