Hi all

a quick update from me. Ive made the strategic decision to let Angus and his chaps finish off much of the car (thanks Angus for you help its very much appreciated). Ive just got my mind elsewhere at the moment and thought Id love to do it all, I just cant say how long it would take. At the moment I just want hassle free, get it on the road and go out and enjoy.

Im sure once all done there will be bits to tinker on later when I feel like it.

Angus is away for a couple of weeks but Ill chat to him when he gets back about the detail. Ill make sure we take lots of pics re the EFI and post them.

Final stretch with any luck:-)

thanks

Dear all

sorry its been a while. Works been nuts. For a long time I just left the car with Angus, Paul, Adam, Neil, Amanda and folks at VW camper co to fiddle on.

Last year Angus persuaded me to pull my finger out and do some of the work myself. So I started to go to the workshop on Saturday mornings to do some fiddling and it was great therapy, got me out the house and back into something I enjoyed doing. Most Saturday mornings Angus would bring in a bacon butty (though this week it was a celebratory breakfast pie) Id twiddle with my car and when I got stuck I just asked Paul or whoever was around. They have all been just incredible help and I dont think I could have finished the rest of the car with out them. Big thanks to Angus for letting me use his facilities and to the guys at VW CC for their help and support over the last 2 years.

Anyway - Ive got photos to upload - I need to find out how to do that I think photobucket gone all weird since I last posted. And Angus can help me with the technical details of the fuel injection so I can post that at somepoint.

Good news is - its going to be rolling road tuned on the 27th Feb...then its ready to come home.

Ive still a few bits to do but I can do them from home.....and then I can start coming to local meets and actually drive the thing. Its 9 years since Vegas (long story but I bought the car while I was in Vegas - whilst under the influence) and Ive not driven it till this weekend where I took it 200 yards down the drive at VWCCs workshop.... now that was a bit weird :-)

Going to miss going to the workshop at the weekend I learned a lot from the guys at VWCC. Hoping I can enjoy getting out and about for a while, but would be fun to do another one at some point.

Hope everyones well by the way!

thanks - just need to christen it now - but all I can think of is Tina - and Im sure everyone calls theirs Tina as well...

Angus and his team really do go the extra mile.
When I bought Jaffa in the USA five years ago- it had a fairly recent engine rebuild [AASE Fullerton California] including replacing worn camshafts etc.
I've since done nearly 40,000 miles , and had noticed some recent engine noise.
I drove Jaffa from west Cork to Greatworth for pre- season service in January and asked them to investigate.
Diagnosis , worn camshafts etc. again, rebuild required :(
However , Sam also did not start work on rebuilding until he had spent some time finding the cause [banjo for oil spray bare blocked by grit] which clearly had been there all the time
Thanks Guys, this time it should last a lot longer!!
Sorry to hijack thread- back to normal programming!

morning all

just testing to see if this photo link works

ImageWork in progress by Andrew Brown, on Flickr

Ive more photos to come but this is a photo of a new dash panel I made from 3mm aluminium covered sign board. Took ages to cut and fit, very fiddly having to work around the steering column, in fact I think I had to unbolt it at one point to jiggle the panel in place.

Dear all,

apls for the delay in providing a regular update. Had a horrendous couple of years at work not had a chance to do much of anything other than that. The car was finally finished around March 2020 and has sat in my garage since.

Just wanted to thank Angus and the folks at Greatworth Classics for their help and patience working with me on Saturday mornings, providing me with coffee and bacon butties, and a bit of advice every now and then. The car drives really very well.

I may keep it, I may sell it not sure yet.
