Its about that time I looked at sourcing some gauges for my replica. What options do i have? I understand the Chinese ones are pony, but i'd be interested to hear your experience with these, cost, suppliers etc
Thanks

Maybe buy a set of original Porsche 911 gauges and get them refurbished/ back dated at Reap Automotive. Better quality. Julian might be able to offer some advice if you give him a call. :)

Chesil's ones always used to be (and I presume they still are) made by Caerbont Automotive Instruments in Swansea (who also trade as speedy cables on the cable / repair side)...

Hi

VDO make replicas now available from Sierra Madre amongst others, they have a GPS speedo which can save a lot of drive problems.

The Sierra Madre gauges look ok, and at £415 plus £35 shipping most reasonable. I guess there will be import tax to go on.

Apart from the size the Vintage ones aren't so bad...

The quality actually is very good. There's only a slight problem with the rev-gauge; due to a strange interne (Chinese?) connection that one can stop working suddenly. The repair is pretty simple and cheap and then these gauges are pretty idiot proof.

I got a full set of VDO replica gauges from Gary at the Speedster Clinic. Came with the various sensors to match the units. The speedo is the GPS one and has a digital mileometer. There are a few subtle differences looks wise when compared with the originals but as I'm building a replica which will openly deviate from the original in places, I'm happy to accept the modern 'touches' and digital/electronic mechanics rather than the originals. Quality appears to be pretty good, but I'm yet to fit or connect to the loom.

Happy to post pics of people are interested (will be a week or so as I'm away from the garage at the moment)?
