Its just a little hole

Post by GARY RICH »

I took my 1981 911SC for a suspension check, shockers OK, bushes slightly worn but theres a hole in the area around the nearside torsion bar. It wasn't too bad and would patch up but remove the rest of the underseal from all the inner wheel arches and sills. Wow, both front inner wings, both sides sills, kidney bowls passenger side rear inner wheel arch and bits on drivers side rear wheel arch. I ordered what I could get from Dansk at Euro carparts and left it with the body work man doing the job. It is coming along nicely and after fitting Powerflex bushes where required I am at the point where I need to choose if I am sticking to the original Black paint or going for something more exotic. All the glass is out and work is still required at the nearside rear so I need to decide what colour to do it, my head says black but if I change it for a different colour do I replace the tea tray spoiler with a ducktail so that it looks a bit more delicate, decisions, decisions.

I'd keep it black (if thats what it was originally) amazing how these cars hide the rust. Who's doing the repairs? looks like a good job

I am not happy to see major chassis repairs being carried out with the body supported on that fashion and with no doors fitted. How is he controlling the door-sill gaps?

My 2p:
Keep it black.
Remove the tea tray and replace with a no-spoiler deck lid. I'm told by rubber bumperists that this was a no cost option on various IB cars, (which was chosen by hardly anyone).

OK, comment deleted! No point worrying about it now.
Still time to remove that spoiler though!

How do these cars pass the MoT?
Lots of visible holes all hidden I guess by coatings over the years.
Looks a nice job, thanks for putting all those pics up!
