Rob:
I did mine in 1989 using Porsche parts.
The 'hole' was a semi circle hole about 10mm dia that looks like a cartoon mouse hole.

After all the welding I injected the bowl with waxoil.
Still solid as a rock after 26 years... :)

a few more late nights or early mornings TBH I'm not sure at the moment....

anyway panels are coming together and the gaps are looking good which is pleasing after so much has been removed and replaced, the biggest bonus last night was the kids actually recognised the car for the first time and Dad wasn't rebuilding something for Scrapheap Challenge

Mine looked just like that in late 1988...

Take heart, you are at the hard point, taken ages, cost lots and it's cold out there.

Keep going, it really will be worth it.

Will still cost too much and still cold out there, but there will be a warm glow next year as soon as it is in colour.

Evening.

Nice progress and another great home resto. Hope the kids are enthusiastic about it.

I am interested to know if you are using 100% Porsche OEM rear quarter panels as I have to perform this exact surgery on Lucy in the near future. I was talking to Design911 a the NEC Classic Car show and they are adamant that the panels from Dansk are a quality part. They are going to give me a quote for the package of parts I need and I'll be asking PartsWise in Holland also re Dansk quality.

However there are others on this forum who have had a bad experience with the quarter panels, so as I said I would value your comments.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys much appreciated and its worth it for sure even in the cold..

We are using 100% OEM rear quarters and front wings due to the pure quality and fit. Peeps said to me cost is not worth it but IMHO there's no choice to make, we paid £900 each for the front wings and £890 for the rear quarters c/w light housings etc delivered to my door within 48hrs.
Restoration Design were £760 plus shipping for the rear quarters without housings and could not do the front wings, don't get me wrong we have used a lot of their parts on the floor sections ect but I just like using OEM if I can, they just feel better :)
We may be lucky but the parts guys at Porsche Leicester really wanted to help and ask for updates etc which is great

Xmas certainly came earlier yesterday for us after a trip to see Max & Dave to collect the heart of the beast for which the results are truly stunning. 8)
We were keen to keep the original look with standard filters but run the Weber carbs and so have utilized Max's new kits which work really well, we went for the 1720cc option in the end mated to the original 4 speed gearbox and bench test sees it running sweet as a nut

if the rest of the build can come close to this we will have a very special car for sure :)

I saw that on Max's fb page. It does look very nice. That make of pistons, cylinders and type of can did you choose?

Apologies for those wanting updates, Xmas/New Year were busy with another project that we are using for the tours around Europe this year but this is now all done so back on with the 912 ready for the UK destinations this year (hint hint Danny...)

Gauges all arrived back from Hans and looking very smart indeed, full report of what's what and testing docs which is great, wasn't too sure how to go with the speedo to keep it at original mileage or start again at 00000, decided as the car has re built from scratch with every single nut/bolt we will start from the beginning but purists out there feel free to shoot me down

Engine spec still being tweaked Neil as we have some Max development parts on so will post up what I can 8)

Engine looks superb - was it a stock rebuild?

we went with 1720cc size in the end just to have that little bit in reserve but with experimental dizzy/ignition system, we have kept all the original parts which are in very good nick as the car had only covered 5600 from new :) , Max is convinced that spark plugs, rotor arm etc. are all original, I know it doesn't mean much but good to see a complete unmolested example
