Gear woes.

Been have great difficulty in keeping the dam reverse in gear lately. Keeps jumping out and grinding. Bit the bullet today and decided to look why. Thought it was just a case of tweeting the CSP shifter. No joy. Found a bush in the tunnel which guides the selector rod had worn and split in half.
Here's a shot of the front half of the bush and the rear bit which had travelled all the back to the rod to gearbox coupling.

Got a new old stock Bush to try and squeeze in. Not happening. Think the rod has to come out completely to get the bush in place then slide it through?? Anyone replace the bush without taking the rod out??
