Oil line/drive shaft clearance problems

I fitted a Carrera 3.2 oilcooler set up to my '73 hotrod. That included the oil thermostat/diverter in the rear wing, hard lines etc. I was able to use the Carrera 3.2 tank to thermostat/diverter line, but had to have a pipe made up for the run from the engine to the diverter. I mounted them both on the usual stud in the wheel arch, the hardline was happier under the stud.
Unfortunately an inspection showed the drive shaft rubbing on the new oil line:
Which has also split the drive shaft boot:
I tried to raise the pipes by fitting them above, rather than below the fixing stud, but clearance is still a problem. In addition, the hardline didn't really 'want' to move up and I feel a bit unhappy about stressing the connection to the diverter.
With the suspension on drop there's plenty of room between the drive-shaft and the pipes:

Of course, that's what you see when the car is on jacks, which is why I didn't spot the problem.
Put a jack under the strut and compress it and you can see the problem - this is without roll/bump.
It looks as if I'm going to have to replace the (std) 90 degree elbow with something that will come out and up, and fit a flexible pipe from there to the thermostat.
And although the car is not lizard belly low; I guess I could also get the ride height raised (a geo set is on the 'to do' list as the handling isn't balanced left to right at the moment).
Any thoughts?

Both lines need to be longer to get a higher arc through the wheel arch. Take them off and visit a hose shop like Hyphose who do hydraulics for plant macinery. They will have suitable tubing and swage ferrules to re use your end fittings.

HI Charles
the oil lines are in the wrong place, as in your hard line should be below the mounting stud and the CORRECT return line on the top.
the return line should be 911 107 729 10 and the mounting clamp 911 207 237 00 £5.77 +vat, there are also 2 rubber sleeves to stop the pipes rubbing on the body, now supplied in a thicker material
this oil line runs over the top of the mounting stud and the clamp pulls both pipes well away from the drive shaft joint.
regards mike

I struggle with this on my car. I only have the hard line (no cooler, '72 set up) mounted below the stud and the bottom of the pipe is lightly polished by the driveshaft boot no matter what position I juggle it into.
Disclaimer: My car maybe a little low!

Thanks Mike; I've asked my friendly OPC about that return line. I know I've got the hardline on the wrong side of the mounting stud; looks like I'm going to have to drain the oil tank and have another go at this.

So if I fit the line highlighted on the PET grab here (#16), and the hose clamp, it should resolve the clearance problems? It certainly looks as if it's a different design to the one on the car - looks to be a mid-year fitting from the PET.
The price isn't too bad around £130-

I added the loop cooler to my 73T ages ago, and have the hose shown on the dia above. The hoses fit the way Mike (MB Eng) describes and all is well.
My car has been 'circuit-low' and hillclimbed to full suspension compression and nothing touches at all.
I fitted the stud myself easy as the hoses sat so well on the inner wing, nothing hangs below the body/chassis work.
Can take a pic of my DIY install tomorrow if you need it.

I picked up the correct oil line on Saturday from my friendly local (sort of) OPC; Portsmouth, and today I managed to find a couple of hours to fit it.
It went on fairly easily; I did have to remove both lines from the diverter to get access to the rear fitting, and lost 2-3litres of oil when I drained the tank (I managed the job without emptying the sump). The rubber sleeves supplied by the OPC to go around the pipes ended up being too thick for the bracket, even after dropping them in hot water to soften them, so I've made do with using just one.
Hopefully that's sorted; many thanks for your help all.

Well done Charles,
Much better than the first set-up. You should sack the bloke who cobbled that together - wouldn't let him near the car again if I were you.

Does anyone have a picture of a correct set up with a single hard line?
