As for paint, I'm going to flat this coat back, It went on a little heavy as I was up against it time wise and It was as new gun/paint. I'll then do any filler work outside of the main exterior panels and re epoxy, then do the Schutz. I'm then passing it over to someone to do the filler work and paint on the outer panels where my skills don't quite meet the grade.
Once its back i'll do the dash and hand paint the engine/inner arches in black.

I've been trawling the internet to look at pics of original underseal and concluded that, A- its impossible to tell from a photo and, B - the tone of the underseal varied quite a bit.

Where has the time gone! Almost a year on from getting Epoxy on the shell I finally managed to have a week off to crack on. Spending a week of solid graft makes you appreciate why a bare metal respray costs so much...

There were a few areas I wanted to revisit before laying some more epoxy on. -









I then hit it with a few more litres of epoxy and several tubes of sealer and a 100 pack of gloves. Overall seam sealing took away around a day and a half of my life i'll never get back and theres still a little bit more to do. I also left my reference photos at home so had to go off memory and previous restorations on here. I've done the same as others and added a lot more seam sealer but kept it discrete where there wasnt any applied originally.

Following the seam sealer was some keying and then a job I actually enjoy, spraying underbody coating. I've spent wayyyyy to much of my life looking at pictures online and the edge of a 1cm square of old underseal. In the end I had to make a decision, Its a bit darker and more beige in real life than in the pics. I'm pretty happy with the comparison to the old stuff, I'm hoping over time with some dirt it will match reasonably well. I used tintable UPOL Raptor which is a 2 pack paint. I'm also pretty happy with the texture match, not exact but I knew there would always be a bit of a trade of when using something a bit different to paint with. It look 8 litres to get where i'm at with the boot, sills, bonnet, arch lips to do.


They say you can tell a pro from an amateur from the local Rag he uses for masking.





I put it a few places where it wouldn't have originally been but I'm happy to drop a few originality points for a non rusting car in 5 years.-

Can anyone confirm if the masking around the Relay holder (or what ever it is I can't remember which doesn't bode well) is factory. I'm assuming it is. -

small update...

front pan finished in underseal, I've gone inside the battery boxes and up above them for extra protection -



Sound deadener fitted to the floorpans. This stuff was nice and easy to work with and gave the nearest factory finish I could find. I found something that looked almost perfect it just didn't like being fitted to the contours of the floor so I had to scrap it.



Hopefully its now ready to go off for paint.
