Early Christmas Present!

Post by ollieg »

Well you know I mentioned I was having something shipped from the US…well check this out!

Image

This beauty arrived last Thursday in torrential rain. The shipping company had complained they couldn't start it and move it easily but I managed to solve the problem by adding some petrol…pah, and I was worried the mechanic aspects were my weak point!

Whilst trying to negotiate the narrow lanes, the transporter managed to knock over a sign-post, get himself stuck in the mud and very nearly puncture his diesel tank with the felled post! Fortunately a fuel delivery truck had a chain and pulled him free.

Image

The car is now safely tucked away in my father-in-law's garage while I get it registered and MOT'd etc…

It's got a '78 euro 911 SC 3.0 engine with CIS..it starts first time and runs smooth from what I can tell. I'll get it fully checked out by an expert asap. Brakes and Suspension upgrades with lots of PMB and Tangerine Racing mods; running on 16" Fuchs. The seats are interesting too; they need a good refurb but they seem to be Scheels.

Image
Image

I'd be interested to know more about these seats if anyone can help…year?..model number?…value maybe?

Another thing I need to figure out is the Fuel Head. The PO has cut out the trunk wall to allow for it but it's still high enough to have dented the rear hood. Does anyone know any fixes for this issue? - other than switching to carbs.

Image

Lots more to tell about the car but will add more details later...

Looks good Ollie. Not sure how he managed to jack knife the trailer like that!

I think two things will sort the clearance -...

1. Drop the engine 1/2 inch on spacers
2. I made a different shaped elbow where it comes out of the rubber CIS below - taking the sharp angle off it allowed the front of the engine to be positioned.about 1/2 inch higher. I may still have it, so will send you if I find it. I also cut the bulkhead like yours, and made an ally box cover to finish it off.

give me a bell if you need any help with these bits and bobs.

carbs is worthwhile and about 20bhp extra, but expensive because as well as the carbs you need to ideal change the fuel pump from high to low pressure, or use one of the kits that chokes the pressure that PMO do.

Thanks for all the comments and messages guys. Here are a few more pics and details of the car. I'll have a look and see about lowering the engine a bit to sort the clearance issue, cheers Wayne.

The body is in really solid shape. The Hell Hole looks good at first glance. The trunk floor needs replacing but it's generally really solid all round. Good chrome trim and mirrors, euro front lenses.

Image

Nice Euro rear lenses too..

Image

Nice Momo steering wheel, just needs new leather..

Image

…and all the gauges are in lovely shape. I need to check they're all working! I guess I'll need an mph speedo for the MOT right?

Image

GT style door cards..

Image

The wheels are 16" Fuchs; only one has slight curb rash, the others are perfect but the paint job on them isn't great.

Engine and gearbox are clean with no obvious leaks..like I say, the engine runs really smoothly. First drives will tell…

Andrew, yes, it's a 74 - Signal Orange. The plan is to drive this for a year or two while I complete the shell in my garage. I've done loads to that. When the new shell is done, I will be swapping everything over. So I will have lots of unused 4cyl parts to sell when that time comes. The orange shell is great and would make a perfect project. I would love to hang onto it and put in the 2.0 4cyl engine I have but I think time and funds will prohibit that. That said, I would hate to sell the orange shell to be cut up for parts so I reckon I'll be fussy about where it ends up!

Cheers for the interest - I'll let you know how it drives - should be terrifying!

Happy New Year all!!!
