Richard, thanks and thanks for sorting the photo, mind explaining that I did wrong? I've used Photobucket previously but has since switched to proper hosting services which I obviously don't master yet :-) Anyhow, a few more shots for your entertainment are awaiting.

Gary, Richard's entertainment is our pain :-)

Cheers Thomas, btw those side scripts arrived.

Hi Magnus,
I had lots of issues getting my 70T Hot Rod registered in Switzerland, although I was in canton Schwyz who are a bit more tolerant than Zurich. I used Walter Hammer at Porsche Kuhn in Adleswil to help get my car registered: https://www.servicekuhn.ch/

Good luck. It took me a couple of months.

Hi Magnus,

Yep, this time around we get the entertainment, your wallet takes the pain. The reverse has been true at times!
(Because I never learn, I have another car headed where yours has been, fairly soon (2 after Gary, I think)).

Re the photo, the link you used is a link to the display page of the image, not to the image itself. With that said, Swisscom doesn't seem to make it super-easy to get to the URL of the image - I had to use a developer tool to look at the HTML... it may be easier if you are logged in - perhaps there's a "share image" button? Or maybe you can right-click and view the image in its own tab, and take the URL from there (that doesn't work for me when not logged in)?

Looking forward to hearing more.

Cheers, Richard.

Hi Ray, yes all safe ‘n sound here tks, heard it’s a bit of a bummer up your part of the world. Be great to catch up next year get some good driving done once things open up, wouldn’t mind a couple of days in Black forrest, or in the alps. Hopefully CLM happens too...

Hi Paul, will keep those advices in mind but hopefully I’m close to getting sorted. Hope your move back to UK went well, and thanks for hand carrying that heavy 911T script last time around.

I wasn’t aware you had another car, must have slipped passed me, looking fwd to follow the progress.

Got exited and jumped directly to (nearly) present in the last posts, here’s a shot of how the first test drive ended... turned out to be a worn ignition switch which took a while to find as it was highly intermittent.

Then there was that little detail of a low frequency noice from the freshly rebuilt engine at cold idle. Engine builder agreed to take a look at it but it meant I had to bring it there, a 700 or so km return trip, plus the flights from Switzerland to Sweden that is...

And yes before anyone mentions the trailer loading, I did realise that exceeding 100km/h did indeed produce close to a brown line, so a decision was made to reload the car at the road side. What can I say, I’ve never trailered a 911 before Image

Turned out to be a worn layshaft

Did you turn it round and load backwards?

I have towed the 964 forwards once, with the nose right over the front of the trailer because I wanted to try it to prove everyone wrong.

Turns out, they were right! Ok at 55mph, any more was indeed brown line inducing, and that was with a 4wd Audi!

Glad you got it sorted

Yes I turned it around Wayne.

Will try to get back to some sort of chronological order now.

As mentioned earlier last autumn it was time for the MFK which is the equivalent to the MOT in UK, just a lot stricter as for classic cars they check not only safety related points but also for originality and paintwork condition etc...

Here lining up waiting for my MFK slot, little did I know...

There were some BS fails requiring a revisit such as:
1. missing fog light covers
2. Exhaust not original, the chap saw the Dansk stamping
3. Right rear wheel was a cookie cutter, so although same dimensions as the deep six’s it was still a fail

It then turned serious!
4. The rear torsion tube was showing a hole which wasn’t visible when I did the chassis refresh a few years earlier, at that point I replaced the torsion bars and observed a little corrosion inside the tube but just cleaned it out with a rotating brush and drenched it in some Tectyle.
So thought for my self that access isn’t all that bad so I’ll just let in a patch, oh I couldn’t have been more wrong! The tester got all exited about it all and explicitly mentioned in the test report that no welding is allowed on the tube and that it had to be replaced by a new item, photo proof to be available at next test etc.

Tester gave me 7 days before having to take the car off the road.

Knowing that I didn’t have the capabilities to replace the tube myself and that I do have some trust issues in regards to anything specialist workshops there was only one thing to do, a call with the metal master Mr Carter. Barry kindly agreed to take on the job as long as I was ok with waiting for the slot to become available.

As I don’t own any car with tow bar and the transportation offers received were a bit steep it was time to act fast if to get the car driven up from Zurich to East Sussex before MFK running out.

Jumped in the car and drove off through France, an hour or so south of Calais I thought it’d be a good idea to book a ferry ticket, which I did, which was expensive...

Here waiting for the ferry, pretty tired having driven pretty much nonstop through the night

Eventually got over the channel and drove up to Impact storage in Sussex, a place which Barry had kindly checked out in advance, car was to stay in their safe storage until Barry had a free slot. Very pleasant experience dealing with these guys, the owner Sam gave a tour of their premises and their workshop where some special cars were being worked on. Can certainly recommend Impact for any storage needs in Sussex.

Sideline, having got all carried away and over the moon that the metal Meister accepted to do only partial rust repairs with all the tedious cleaning that comes with it I’d not really planned how to get back home... it was Fri afternoon and flights were ridiculously expensive and there were nothing direct available for the Saturday either. Turned out I could get a ticket from Heathrow to Gothenburg with air miles so thought it’d be a good idea to go there and collect the 993 which had been in storage at my dads house for some time. Had a good meal, got into the 993 and drove the 1600 km back home with only fuel/food stops as had an early Sunday morning meeting to attend to in Zurich. Then slept for an eternity...

It was now time to start the hunt for a good used torsion tube as I found the +€4k asking for the tube sans brackets from Sportwagen Eckert somewhat extraordinary... never got hold of a used tube but then someone pointed me in the direction of Restoration Design, got a tube for less then half, result!

Barry collected the car in August and set to work. Front and rear suspension, tank and driveline stripped before it could be mounted onto the Celette.

Turned out that rear right was a little low, perhaps not a huge surprise since that door’s shut lines were never really great no matter how much I tried to line it up...
