Hi Magnus, you have a fantastic looking car there, and a great story to tell.

I am wondering if it might be more cost-effective just to move country

Does anybody know how one gets an almost complete car onto the Celette ?

All the best ! :cyclopsani:

Magnus, great story, but what a heart sink moment at the test station! Good work bouncing back so quickly from that little shock. Sam at Impact is indeed one of the good guys, he's done various paint on my 993. Quality work. These days he seems to have a lot of interesting BMWs hanging around, too.

You've stitched Barry up nicely here... I don't think I'll bother taking anything off my next project car. Clearly Mr Carter has some kind of anti gravity machine to pop it on the jig, no worries. He can probably weld around the heavy bits and the flammable bits :-). It's going to save me a lot of time. Maybe just drive it down there and throw him the keys.

You know we need lots of photos of the next part of the story, I assume?

Cheers, Richard.

Pictures needed in detail, Barry takes a good picture as well as welding things.

Looking forward to the install of the new tube. Presumably the rear areas by the spring plates the tube passes through are good?
That is a very determined effort to get the car to The Master, but certainly well worth it.

Engine crane onto the special Barry spec tunnel mount frame.
That’s the easy bit, try getting it through the workshop door :) Never mind Darren’s RSR arches you wouldn’t get an RS

Come on Magnus, time for the gory metal work photos! :)

Don’t worry Darren, i know it was for a good cause Image

First thing Barry did after confirming rear being low was get the screens out, to avoid cracking, and pull it straight.

First time right door gap is locking good in my ownership.

Then it was time asses what we had, kind of like peeling an onion.

Rear seat pan cut out to allow proper access for welding in the new torsion tube around the complete circumference.
Image

All though the underside of the car was looking relatively good we all know that there’s no such a thing as “just” replacing a torsion tube, there need to be something to attach it to as well.

LH chassis rail required some attention, inner and outer sheet metal replaced. Amazing craftsmanship forming these panels.

Massaging metal under torsion tube, as on so many of these cars mine too has been careless jacked up in this area, gratefully not rusty and now back to looking great again.

This is apparently what assorted pieces of 911 look like

Fuel pump bracket was a bit on the crusty side

Bit of blasting, bit of welding and its looking better

Now it was time to tackle the torsion tube. The RD tube doesn’t include any brackets so these were duly cut out, blasted and transferred over to the new RD tube

Barry also fabricated new tube ends as the new tube comes without these bits.

As the right rear wing already had been cut and there would be some paintwork required on this side, I deep inside myself I knew that the right jack support had been bodged previously in my ownership. Although the sill looked great with no traces of corrosion we agreed that it would make sense to open it up and get the jack support sorted properly. I can only say I’m glad we did...

Love this sequence of pics Magnus, Barry said he went deep

He’s making the RHS of mine at the moment in the same way. Glad he got the practice out the way a couple of weeks earlier
