Front bumper off. Funny how they look a bit like a 550 with no front bumper -

Bought a GRP bonnet to put me on until the car goes in for body work...

...though the LHS one isn't up to Mr Moss's standards so is now for sale.

Rear bumper removed. These are *really* heavy. I can't believe how much fannying about Porsche did in the late 60s / early 70s to move a few kilos forward in the car, then they went and stuck a bloody great RSJ on the back in 1974.

Cutting the reflector panel out is supposed to be easy, but there are a bonkers number of spot welds and a bit of seam welding to cut out. Ended up making a couple of holes. Will all get fixed when it goes into Early911 though.

For now, painted the bare metal with acid etch and some rattle can topcoat.

This photo also shows my shiny new Magnecor HT leads that came with the coil pack.

Painted the decklid with rattle cans. Having problems getting it to fit though - it's a few mm oversized and the curvature isn't quite right at the top. Fenn Lane have been fantastic about it - Chris has insisted I send it back.

The stainless steel mesh in the picture turned out to be quite a bit heavier than the usual aluminium grille !

Now for the contentious bit. RS bumpers don't fit well over stock Carrera exhausts so was advised to get a different back box. Ended up buying this incredibly expensive specimen, having been assured by the manufacturer it would fit...only to find it juts out even further than the Dansk item I had before.

Nick thinks he'll have to cut out quite a bit of the RS bumper to get it to fit...which is far from ideal. Will probably have to go back to old exhaust.

Well, that's about it for the work I've been able to do. The car went off to Early911 a couple of weeks ago. As we were loading up the car, some long-haired freak turned up and started talking about Porsches...

Still annoyed about that bloody exhaust.

Even from these early pic's of the build it looks like it's going to be great. Are you staying with the same colour?

Colour is the tricky one. If it all comes in to/under budget then I can afford a sunroof delete and a change of colour. If not, then it stays the same colour and keeps the sunroof.

I'd ideally like Beige Grey or Dolphin Grey (a 356 colour, I think). Something flat and light seems to suit hotrod 911s. It's a pretty nice colour already though - Schaefer Blue.

I was thinking the current colour works pretty well so far with the chrome trim and gold.
