1993 Porsche 964 C2

Post by hot66 »

Title EDIT

Quite a few months I convinced my wife I should get rid of my daily and replace it with a 911 ( must give my wife credit here for putting up with me and my cars :). )

So, daily sold and the search began. It wasn't going to be modern .... I've done the watercooled stuff before . I decided it was either going to be another 993 or a 964 ..... Had to be coupe , C2 and with a manual gearbox.

Now, anyone who's recently searched for a nice air cooled car will realise it's not quite that simple. The idea you can go out and find one straight away isn't reality . I took a trip down south and looked at over 7 different 964's that were on sale with a number of well known dealers ..... A real mixed bag of cars , non of which I was happy with.

Returning home , pretty disheartened , I wondered why I'd sold my wonderful daIly driver

A few days later, and in a better mood, I made the decision I wouldn't compromise and I'd search out the car I REALLY wanted 8)

Which is why in the middle of October, 2 days before I was jetting off to Spain on holiday, I found myself jumping into the CSL for a quick blast over to Düsseldorf , to meet in a petrol station forecourt , a German who I'd only ever emailed and spoken to once ! What's the worse that could happen ?

As it was, I'd never been to Düsseldorf before and as I had come off the hull ferry at 9am and wasn't meeting my new German until 2pm, I had time to visit the car museum I'd read about.

Interesting place, a converted industrial building which contain numerous small auto based shops, car dealers and specialist classic workshops + a cafe ..... Well worth the visit and most of the cars were for sale too, not cheap though

After lunch, I headed up the road to meet my new German friend. I was meeting him at 2pm , but had to leave Düsseldorf at just after 3pm to make sure I could catch the ferry home from Rotterdam .... So only an hour to check over the car I had come to look at.

.... Well, it wasn't difficult to find the guy I was meeting , there in the car park was the 964 I was interested in.

I left my car and jochen took me out in the 964 up the motorway and off to the large indoor ski centre car park where I could check the car out ( not your traditional car viewing I admit) . Luckily, it was exactly as described and from the passenger seat it drove loverly.

Back to get my car and then off to Jochens house ( mainly so I could confirm I wasn't being scammed !! )

I agreed to buy the car,and then had to head off to catch my ferry

Fast forward to this Tuesday ... After a 2 week holiday , then a big learning curve incl currency transactions, German registration laws and me putting a huge amount of trust in jochen ( I'd paid him in full the previous week ) .... Me and my wife were sat on a plane heading for Düsseldorf .

Jochen collected us from the airport , and then off to collect my new car 8) . A handshake later, temp no plates fitted and off to the hotel we went .... Also the 1st time I'd actually driven the car

Now, Düsseldorf was quite a surprise, loverly City and one I'm Deffo returning to in the future
