Interesting , so we know that not all cars had the Kardex note, next challenge would be to find one below chassis 302xxx

Your Kardex is interesting and different to others I have seen inasmuch as there is no mileage recorded or indeed any information in the left hand columns. The 30 as a reimbursement charge is minimal.

Could it be that Michael Shirley 'arranged' with AFN to have the car acknowledged as British whilst he was in Germany prior to shipping the car back to Australia. Did it ever actually enter the UK? I understand you have the shipping details - where was it shipped from?

Is Michael Shirley still alive? Does anyone have access to the earliest AFN Order Book page.

Interesting project.

It's interesting that there is very detailed history from 70s onwards but the first 5 years are shrouded in mystery.
Unfortunately Mr. Shirley is long gone but the Hamiltons are still alive who he sold the car in '66 in Australia. Worth noting that 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade https://www.army.mod.uk/who-we-are/form ... y-brigade/ was a British Army division, they were jus stationed at Fulda at the time and returned to UK the same year.

The car definitely arrived in UK, there is a picture of it at Hamiltons Autohaus on Salisbury plains and apparently there is a picture of it arriving at the docks also i personally haven't seen it yet, one of the previous owners will dig it out for me. By various accounts it spent anything from a few months to entire year in UK but it definitely was in Australia by '66

I doubt they'll be able to dig anything up for 300882, as it wasn't ordered through AFN.

It was shipped by/through AFN to England and is on their record.

It's not on the AFN purchase ledger. There are LHD cars which were ordered for export and they are allocated a temporary registration number. Even the cars that were factory collected for export and didn't ever come to Britain are listed, but chassis number 300882 isn't on that list.

It won't be as you say it wasn't ordered by AFN but was delivered to UK and had first service by them.

An interesting-looking RHD early 911 with 1965-66 features popped up on the early 911S registry site recently and I wondered if it rang any bells with anyone here? The picture was taken in the mid-1970s when it was light green and registered TBC 21. It was owned by Brett Johnson at the time and went back to the US with him. Does it sound familiar at all? It must have been distinctive in that colour and with that registration. Appreciate any thoughts. Many thanks, Robert

Pleased to announce another new car to the database this one from down under. The car is for sale and I can pass on details to any here on DDK if there is any interest - just PM me.

Words from the owner below.

This 911 is part of my personnel collection of cars. I purchased the car as a rolling chassis in a million pieces , and my company fully restored the vehicle. The vehicle from my research was the second 911 to hit the Australian shores and was imported by Hamilton’s the then Porsche dealer of that era. We went to extensive lengths to create a period restoration which have all been documented and recorded.

I have full Porsche certification for vehicle as follows in writing all numbers
Chassis Number: 302728
Original Delivery Date : 9th /11/1965
Engine Capacity 2.0lt 130HP Solex Carb
Engine No: 902927
Gearbox No: 224618
Exterior Colour: 6602
Interior: Leatherette Beige/Pepita
Options: RHD, Coloured Windows

Delivered: Hamiltons, Melbourne

Hi there, do you mind me asking which records the car is on? Is it an AFN order or sales record, or a workshop record? Were the Frazer Nash Archives able to help? Many thanks, Robert

It's just me and the tumble weed here now! Two questions for the early RHD experts:

1. Did any early RHD cars - those from the 1965 and 66 model years - have a rear screen wiper as original equipment? If not, which is the earliest RHD car to do so?
2. Did RHD/UK market cars from the same period have under-the-bumper fog -lights as standard equipment or were they an option?

Any thoughts gratefully received. Best wishes, Robert
