1971T Coupe LHD Sporto - Burgundy - US Import

Post by Joelipol »

Some pics of my 71T this morning. Learnt a hard lesson about buying a car in primer this morning when taking it back to bare metal revealed a side impact that has been badly repaired and covered over.

It also looks like the car has sat in bare metal for a while previously and rust has sent in, pitted the metal and then been filled and primed. Sigh.

I've posted a wanted ad previously for a LHD door but it looks like I need a new wing, rear quarter panel, and engine lid. Love to hear your thoughts on his assessment... This is my personal car so obviously I am intending to do this properly - i.e. I am not going to bog it back up...

To all pics...

Aerocoat sent these back last week as well...

Power coated chrome, could look at them all day :)

Thanks to the guys there as they had to redo them after ups damaged all five in transit. They sent them off to rim repair and turned it all around in a week, well done!

Had to buy a replacement LHS door as well... Of course we didn't want to correct any imperfections with bog so a new door skin was applied...

It would seem it's not just the VW world that suffers this problem of buying a car/ van from the states looking good only to find it's got plenty of Bondo, as they call it attached to the car.
Apart from that, nice job your doing, love the colour and its a sportomatic to boot.
I'm in the process of converting mine to 5 speed manual as my wife won't/can't drive an auto.
Looks like you have your work cut out, keep up the good work and the pictures too, love to,see what others are doing as I'm new to the Porsche ownership.

Looking good !

Burgundy is a lovely colour on an early 911 - especially with steel wheels.

Nice work... I have a 69 which was originally Burgundy, could I ask about the wheel finish, how does it compare with real chrome ?
Cheers.

Big fan of Aerocoat - they are near my in-laws and powdercoated my Moulton frame. A high-tech shiny shed operation it is not (at least the one in St Olaves isn't!)

Really tried hard to get the panel gaps right. They aren't perfect perfect, but I am signing off on them.
